Anyone run a Yamaha 2400ishc generator with their 26bh?
I think the 2013 Sunset Trail 26BH has a 13,500 btu a/c condenser,( can someone please confirm with that for me>my trailer is currentlyburiedunder about 5 feet of snow. )
Or on a unit with same size btu A/C unit. I would like to know if this generator will run the A/C even if I have to ensure all other electrical sources are turned off to make it happen.
Thanks

I have a 2010 ST24 with a 13,000a/c. We also have a Yamaha 2400IS generator. I have not been able to get it to start our AC. But we also live at 5000ft above sea level and all of our camping is at that elevation or higher.
I did rejet the carb but it still won't turn theA/C. We have neverhad a need for the A/C so it has not been a problem. It is a good generator starts very easy and will power all of our other needs. It may start an A/C at lower elevations.

Thanks for the info. Very surprising that the 13000btu won't go, I know the Yamaha 2400ishc brochure says it will run a 13500btu. What year of 2400generator do you have and is it the ISHC model or just the IS ? This may make a difference I think they stop producing the IS? Think HC may be able to handle a higher initial demand wattage for startup of the compressor plus it makes a difference if the fan kicks in first then waits a second or 2 before kicking in the condenser. Otherwise if they both start simultaneously it can cause too much initial current draw.
It would also be interesting to see a chart on power draw vs altitude for the AC unit. I am at about 2000ft above sea level but not sure if that will help enough.
I also think I am sticking with the 2400 generator as the 3000 watts are just to big and bulky for my space requirements.
Anyone else have any feedback on generators and AC units reccommedations?
Thanks

I am just impressed that with 5 feet of snow on your unit you are concerned with A/C I thought we were inundated with our 20 plus inches of snow, and it is snowing as I write this too, but 5 feet takes me back to the winter of 1977 in Buffalo, NY. I have never seen so much snow in my life nor do I ever care to. Hope you get some good answers.
Happy New Year,
Jim

I had a 2400 Yamaha and it would run our 13500 AC. We are less then 2000 ft. above sea level.
I think if you have 5ft of snow on the roof of your rig, you should probably give some serious consideration to getting it off before there is permanent damage.

We have a Honda 3500 that will run our air, but it has 68 decibels. We have a Yamaha 2000 that is quieter, but it won't run the air. So folks say the 2400 will run the air, but it could depend on the air unit and the draw it needs to start it. It's probably marginal would be my thought.

Ok probably around 3 ft of snow on the rig, but i do shovel it off periodically through the winters. The snow bank at the end of my driveway is at the 7ft mark this winter fromshovelingoff the cement pad.
These are typical winters up in Alberta. Snow and lots of it this yearespecially.
So sounds like i may have to wait until spring when i can drag my trailer to a yamaha dealer and test out the 2400 on my a/c. I was hoping to buy one this winter butobviouslyno way of testing it out now. I figured the 2400 would be enough to run the a/c but by some of the posts it sounds marginal.
Thanks

I think I remember a capacitor kit that you can buy to maker the AC start easier. With this installed, it will run of your Genny. It may run fine without the kit too. Some folks have had success.

I have a Honeywell 2000 that ran a 13,500 just fine. The trick is to turn on the AC fan and let it get running up to speed, then turn on the compressor, grunts a little but runs it just fine. It won't start both at the same time though.

I have installed the hard start capacitor and I try it by starting the fan then the compressor. It still won't start the A/C. It has started it twice here at the house. The 2400 is a no go for us on the A/C.

I installed that hard start capacitor last summer. Didn't do me a bit of good so we took it back out.
I have a friend who's an electrician. He was curious about it to, so he came over and we had all the test equipment and it didn't show enough difference to amount to a hill of beans.
Some reports I have read really give it high praise. Then again there are others that have the same results I did.

How did you make out with the generator! We have a Yamaha 2400 and it ran our 13500 ac fine but now we are getting the sunset trail 220rb and I am worried that it won't run this ac unit. Just wondering how you made out?

I was just browsing posts and saw yours about 1977 in Buffalo. I was in a small town north of Buffalo called Lockport. The snow was so deep it literally buried cars completely. That's not a drift or piled/plowed snow either!

I was there when that happened. I was calling on Restonic Mattress there and Danny said Frank They are getting ready to close down this town. I have emplyees that live a block from here and are snowed in. I left, go on the thruway and followed truck down. Went to pay the tool, and that guy said, What are you doing on this we closed it an hour ago. Kept on going got home to Lancaster at 2 AM. Next day they shut down that area for around two weeks or more. The next time in town the Motel I stayed in was having a natural gas generator install. The owner said they were not going through that again
