Looks like spring might finally be here in Central Illinois and I was able to get the camper out today. Going camping at the race track this weekend, can't wait.

Chris, please send the weather our way, as I look outside the ground is slowly turning white, YUK! I went to the storage yard to visit my unit last Friday, it was sad seeing all the dorment trailers there.

I'll try to send some your way. They are saying its suppose to be in the mid 60's by the weekend so I'm hoping they won't get this one wrong.

Tom,
Have a good time, we'll be taking the old unit back Thursday to the dealer...might do some boondocking with the new unit to test everything out like last time...heater, water pump, etc. Good chance to make sure everything works as advertised...if not, take it right back

Are you going to Starved Rock this year? Just made my reservations last week. See you at the rally.

See you down the line,
Jim

Last year I had our trailer out and summerized by this time. I woke up this morning to 2inches more of the white stuff. Maybe another 2 weeks till I bring it home. I have our first trip booked for the last weekend of this month.

We are enjoying summer temperatures for a few days, then another 2-3 days of freezing weather returns, usually just in time for the weekend.

Brought our new CR 34SS home Monday...and soon found out I need lots...and I mean lots of practice backingup with a fifth wheel. It's a whole other world. Took it out to a county park Monday (the only day it hasn't rained in a couple weeks) and I proceeded to tear up the lawns surrounding the paved sites. After 1/2 an hour of that the wife and I left in frustration. I took it to the storage area, a trucking company, and proceeded to try to put it between the two other campers, where my old unit was stored. I couldn't make it...just couldn't get the hang of it...more embarrassment...so I found a large gravel area and was able to put it there. Last night the owner called and asked why I hadn't put it "back" where my other unit was...and sheepishly I told 'her' about my dilemma. She made me feel good and told me that it takes lots of practice...even though it didn't with my hitch model. She told me to come out any time and that what I should do is pull it forward as far as I can...and then practice over and over just backing up in a straight line. She said that is how her husband taught her to drive tractor-trailer. She said then after I get that down I should turn the wheel slightly and feel for how much it moves each way. So, as embarrassed as I was (am) she made me feel pretty good. I have to get this down soon as next Thursday we're taking it back to that same county park for the shakedown before leaving for NY on May 7th. I guess I understand why people like pull-through so much. And to think I always used to opt for back in sites because I was so secure and sure of myself. I pray I get that feeling back soon. LOL

Travel well,
Jim

Don't sweat it Jim you will get the hang of it. Before you know it you will be backing it like you did your other camper. I'm sure you will enjoy towing it a lot more then a travel trailer. It follows much better and semi's don't affect you. I'm sure you will learn quickly, good luck.

Jim,
The problem most new 5th wheel owners, and new semi drivers have is--- they "over steer" when backing up. DON'T TURN THE WHEEL SO MUCH. Just slow down and it will come to you.

Tator borrow a small utility trailer with a short tongue and practise with it,when you can back that up the fifth wheel will seem like a piece of cake.

Lloyd & Lyle,
I talked to the owner of the trucking company, she said the same thing to me. She is letting me use the truck grounds to practice...if the rain ever stops. She is leaving 2 trailers in a way I can use that for backing in But, basically she told me the same thing...stop over steering

thanks guys,
Jim
