Apparently this configuration is illegal in Florida, yet I have seen this kind of thing several times while in Florida. Yesterday on I-10 in Florida we saw truck pulling a fifth wheel pulling a utility trailer.

Saw this in Florida in our campground. Has anyone ever seen this kind of set-up? The fifth wheel rides on this attachment to the truck, and it appears the attachment to the truck does not have a pivot point. Heck of a wheel base, though!

It is legal in Fl as well as a number of other states, az, co, id, etc. Some require permits. Also some allow triples which are usually restricted to cargo carrying units which is impressive.
For a real hoot Australia allows various numbers, Ive heard of 10 or more, called trains.
Im sure some of our forum members in the trucking industry can further update this.

I know some states allow you to tow behind a 5th wheel but not a TT.

I agree. I don't know of any states that permit towing behind a TT, only 5th wheels.

If that's attached to his bumper and doesn't pivot, it's going to bend the heck out of the bumper when he turns tight. It also looks like a gooseneck setup. That means safety chains needed between the 5er and the trailer and from the trailer to the truck.

I just saw the guy who owns it. The thing has it's own winch to get your trailer out of trouble. It is attached to the frame, not the bumper, and the wheels on it turn. It allows you to pull your 5th wheel with a Suburban. Your pickup truck would have more room for storage. The thing also has its own brakes. He said the trailer follows the same path as the truck and he can park the trailer on a dime. I will post more info. after visiting the web site.

I've seen them advertised, but never really saw one, I think they're called, "Buddy" something. So, if it's attached to the frame, how do you remove it when you aren't pulling? We've thought several times of giving up the 5er, so we could move up to a full sized Suburban; but we just can't let the 5er go. However...if this thing is really practical, it would be worth a look.

I think the best part about it is that it takes ALL tongue weight off your tow vehicle other than the light dolly weight...

Watched every video...Gotta admit it is pretty SLICK...One of the questions they did not answer or have a video for is what happens when you get to the campground....Do you use your front landing gear with the hitch hooked up or do you have to disconnect the hitch. Also what is it rated for weight wise.

I started a new thread about this. The guy I saw who has one says it makes the trailer more maneuverable, so I guess you do not disconnect the thing from the truck. As for weight, I think it's pretty high. This guy had just about the biggest fifth wheel I have seen.

Many years ago I did ride in the truck part of that... In the Marine Corp. we called them 6-bys....
Tim
If you are going to drive that better have a ton of money with you....They are geared LOW and by the picture I'm thinking there is PLENTY of wind resistance....
