My neighbor has a new 250 SRW with the 6.2 but i'm not sure what gear it is. He's in the farm seed and fertilizer business so most of his pulling is a gooseneck trailer or anhydrous ammonia tanks. If I remember correctly he said it has a 19,000 combined weight for a 5th wheel type trailer. He's happy with it so far, he made the switch from 6.0 2500HD.

Not to change the subject but today GAS $4.15 / DIESEL $3.98.

Gas here, $3.50 and diesel $3.89. I am not going to get rid of my truck just looking to add another capable of towing a 5th wheel up to around 12k. I do not want one of the new diesels with all the emmissions crap on them. Fuel mileage is not a concern for this truck.

His is a work truck, no fancies but he is very happy with it's performance. It has the 3.73 gear. He says he can get 18 on the highway 13 to 14 around town. Not towning of course, he doesn't check the mileage while towing.Gotta agree with the emissions crap, the urea bottom is giving some of the Chevy's problems. The computer will not reset when the bottle is refilled and the motor will endup in limb mode.

I have been looking at the F350 SRW 4X4 Ext Cab LWB 6.2L 4.30. If we decide to get one it would replace my wife's truck. At this point I don't think the Chevy or Dodge gas motors with the 4.11 would give me enough towing capacity.

You are correct, my PF30CK is a little more than the 6.0 with 4:10 gear needs. It does the job on short hauls a few times a year but if we went more than that I would need a new truck. Good luck with the search.

Not sure if you are talking about the FTE forum but here's the link with many opinions. Not sure you will find just one answer though. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/86...l#post10430707

I bought an F250 6.2L w/ 3.73 rear end. I'm pulling the Sunset Trail Reserve 26BH. Love the truck. Does very well for most terrain, starts to work a bit harder on hills around 6%. The 6spd tranny is great too. For the most part, in T/H mode, I'm running in 5th at around 2200 rpm to maintain 100km/hr. On the long flat stretches and downhill, it will drop to 6th (providing no head wind). I've got 6000km's on the truck, with just over 1500kms towing the TT. Generally for city driving I'm getting 14mpgs, highway 15-16mpgs, and towing on the highway around 10mpgs.

Overall I am VERY happy with the truck as a puller. Originally I was looking at diesel, but since I'm not pulling very often (this is also my commuter vehicle) I couldn't justify the extra $8 grand on the diesel. A pretty good compromise on a great Ford vehicle.

If I had factory-ordered the truck (which I didn't - just bought it off the lot), I would have ordered the 4.30 rear end, as I think the performance would have been even better. But the 3.73's work just fine for my needs.

Dirt engineer you have the truck I was looking at last year this time when the dealer made me an deal on a new 2009 F350 SRW Lariat PSD. I didn't care it was a year older model when it left the lot as I keep them for years. Still have my last new truck, 96 GMC 1500.

From looking at your mileage it's about even. The diesel gets 16-17 running around, 19-20 hwy and 11-12 pulling but the fuel costs more. About even I'd say. It only has 10k on it so it's not quite broke in yet.

It does have the 3.55 rear end which I like. It helps running empty and doesn't really hurt towing. Torque does that.
