Igloo Portable Ice Maker

I bought one of these last year. It's an Igloo Portable Ice Maker. I paid over $100, makes 26 pounds of ice in 24 hours. Great for drinks. Even if you make a batch and freeze them, saves from the ice cube trays in the freezer. My wife saw a bunch of them at Wal-Mart for $75.

I love these portable ice makers. We used one for years, but my wife is eccentric and doesn't care for the type of cubes that these make. She loves the "nugget" style ice like they serve at Sonic. So we have one of these commercial machines in our garage.

Before every trip, I bag up 40 lbs of ice and put them in the RV's freezer. She was afraid we'd run out on our last trip (eight days on the road), but we did just fine.

LOL! I'm glad I read your whole post, Dave. With the big Ice maker jumping off the page, I first thought you were being facetiously funny. But that's an awesome idea! I like the portable ones as well, you just have to stay on top of emptying it, and refilling.

That was the problem I found, yes it made 26lbs a day, but I lost that much going back/forth filling/emptying & If you didn't dump it fairly quickly it started melting.

One of the justifications my wife gave me when we got this was that we could supply all of the ice for our neighborhood sports events. Our HOA has a small swim team (about 150 kids) and we donate all the ice for their meets and special events.

I also put in a digital keypad lock on our garage side door and gave some of the neighbors the combo so they can come in and fill their coolers. This machine can make 280 pounds per day if we keep harvesting it, so it's not like we're going to run out.

Look, if you guys can't drink fast enough to keep up with the ice maker, you need more practice.
