I saw that a tornado hit cape Coral Florida Saturday.

Looks like it sat down just across the water from the campsite I have rented on Pine Island Jan 25-Feb 8 and then tore everything up for 3.5 miles.

I had concerns about a few things to do with driving from So. IL down to south Florida in January, but having a tornado hit me after I get there wasn't one of them.

We had a tornado here on Feb 29, 2012. Tore my roof and chimney off, took down my pole barn, completely disintegrated our business which is about 150 yards south of my house.

I didn't have a basement then and I understand there aren't any basements in florida.

I think if they have a (basement) down in Florida, it would be called an indoor swimming pool.
Your concerns on traveling down south around that time of the year is something I share with you. I feel the same way.

It really has nothing to do with the tornado, but I canceled my reservations at the Pine Island KOA today. I found a place called The Glades I can get into that has a 9 hole golf course on site. Also bigger sites and more room for walking the dog and letting him play. It's also almost $200 cheaper for the 2 weeks. Same weather but in the center of the state near Okeechobee so no beach.
Beach doesn't matter to wife and I.

I'm pretty happy right now.

We are in the Tampa area now and so far this month it has been a bit on the cool side. We have had rain, but no severe weather. We are just keeping our fingers crossed on that one!
