oil prices
How many of you remember when crude oil was below $30 a barrel?
Do you remember what gas prices were then?
Here is a chart on crude prices. I found it interesting.

I remember paying 20.9¢ per gallon for regular years ago. I also remember dad paying 11.9¢. Back then, diesel was cheaper than gasoline. Around here (central Virginia) now diesel is almost as cheap as regular. Tonight I saw a station where regular was $1.899 and diesel was $1.979. It makes me think twice about buying the car I've been looking at recently.

I think we should all refrain from moving back in to gas guzzler type vehicles. Be careful what car you have been dreaming about. Look around at what the major auto makers have done to engine and transmission offerings. They invested in this new technology because they know it will be popular again. Since no one can offer a definitive answer as to why the price of crude oil has dropped I would fully expect it to rise again after the election next year!!

We have been lulled into believing low fuel prices are here to stay before. Enjoy it while we can.

Filled the RAM up yesterday w/diesel at $1.86. Amazing as it's lower up here in the high country than down in Denver.

For one thing there is a glut on the market right now. OPEC has decided to continue pumping at the same rate and not do any cutting back on their production.
There are many new companies here in America that have started drilling. In our local area alone the frac sand mining is really going strong. This is hauled all over the nation and is used in the recovery of crude oil. The train loads going out every day is just unbelievable.
I heard on the news just the other day about a huge under ground storage for crude built in the Huston area that is the size of the Astro dome.
supposedly all of the storage facilities are full and there is huge tankers sitting off shore being used for storage now also.
I think OPEC might be trying to tell all these local, (small in comparison) companies they mean business.
Like Al stated, we should enjoy it while it's low.

I've been working at the refinery at Wood River, IL since October, just got laid off yesterday.
They make the gasoline, propane, and lots of other things. Trucks pick it up and then transport it to gas stations all over the midwest.
This is what I don't understand: Propane is higher than hell up there around Wood River. I was staying in my camper and paying $30 for a 30 pound fill. I could drive 5 miles through traffic and get it for $25 but decided it wasn't worth the hassle. I can get a 30 pound fill here at home (130 miles away) for $19.
On to gasoline, I paid $1.99 last night up there because I was on 1/8 of a tank before I left for home.
I get to my home town and gas is $1.85.

Why do prices range from 2.01 to 2.49 for diesel in same city is a good question too.
