picture taking

I have lately been scanning in all our old family pictures. We have been married 41 years so this goes back a long way. For some of the trips we took, I look at the pictures and try to figure out where this was. So I came up with an idea for future picture taking. From now on, I will first take a picture of the location, like a sign that says "Welcome to ....". Then the pictures following that would show that place. For an event, I could simply write out on a piece of paper "Uncle Joe's 50th birthday" or whatever the event is.

I thought I would pass this along especially for a lot of you younger folks who are just starting to collect memories.

I realize that software like Picasa allows you to add captions, but first of all that gets a tad time-consuming, and Picasa does not work with Windows 8. I find it time-consuming enough just to sort out what pictures to keep, as I tend to take quite a few and discard the not so good ones.

Great Idea.
We have several people that like to follow our escapades while we travel. We take a lot of photos, but only want to share them with the selected group while on the road.

Anyone do this with something other than Facebook?

I do it with Facebook, but not all of my friends/family are on Facebook. I also have a large following, especially on a long trip.

Ok. We currently use a closed group on Facebook so everyone on the trip can share as we go. Facebook Groups limit the organization of photos, etc.

Just would like to find something better that did not require that I give permissions to allow other to use the photos.

You can great group sharing through snapfish and then people in that group can choose to purchase prints of those photos. Ie my starfish account has an area for me to see only, an area I can share with just my family and an area I share with certain friends. I haven't done this in awhile but I remember it worked well in the past.

We just use email to those we choose to connect with. We just traveled for 3 months and visted 10 National Parks along the way. We included photos and friends and family have urged us to blog or publish our emails.
This is a beautiful country
