today we said good bye
Early this morning my DH's father passed away at his home. It is fitting that he passed away on Memorial Day as he was a former marine that served his country proudly in Viet Nam. Through the years he suffered greatly from PTSD but spent the last few years trying to make it right. He certainly was a tough old bird but in the end he was a dad to 3 wonderful sons and a grandpa to a sweet little girl. He will be missed.

Many Americans are not aware, that many of our combat veterans suffer with PTSD. I do not know who it was that first said that "WAR IS HELL" , but I am sure that it must have been someone who had been to war.

I am so sorry for the lose of your dad. Knowing that he served in Viet Nam, you should be especially proud of his service, as soo many men were leaving the country so they did not have to serve at that time. So all I can say at this point is, I will say a prayer for him and may he rest in peace.

Tommy we are proud of him.
He has been ailing the past few years with illnesses related to agent orange exposure but more recently his lungs, kidneys and heart have been giving out. The decision was made to let a brave man die with dignity in his own home with his current wife and one of his sons at his side. Thank you everyone for the kind words. Anthony is still processing it and has a stomach bug to boot so he is passed out upstairs right now but he will be flying to Massachusetts later this week for the service.

Anaro....just returned from WNY camping and saw your post. Deb and I are very sorry to hear of your loss. William Tecumseh Sherman, Union General, said the famous quote used by Sleepy T. He also was quoted as saying the cream of a nation is lost in war. Unfortunately not all casualties are on the battlefield. Godspeed to him and all like him, they certainly earned their rest.
