TX. weather

I see by the news you guys down there in TX. are finally getting some rain, and wind. Which nobody needs. Do you still have enough room to put all that rain they say you are getting?

From the last check I did , the lakes are still only 85%....
usually we'll take it all !!!

BUT, not great to get our yearly rainfall in one week

Wish us luck as tornado's are in the storm just southwest of us here in Fort Worth...

Yes GOOD LUCK....We just had tornado warnings last week...This is something that has just been happening in my area the past 10 years...I can never remember tornados as a kid, that was something that happened in the midwest...For sure the weather patterns are changing and in my opinion not for the better...

Lloyd:

At this time we will take all of that rain we can get. In fact, we got a nice shower before daylight this morning.

The areas east of I-35 are in pretty good shape. However, we still need lots of rain west of there. The lakes in the hill country and west still are not any where near capacity. The water level at Lake Medina just west of San Antonio is 84 feet below capacity.

George is right, most of the rain and bad weather is north and east of where we need it. The major hill country lakes are still around 35% of capacity. It will probably take the remnants of a hurricane to fill them up.

I've only received about 3/4 inch of rain over the past 8 days. But OTOH also missed serious hail damage by just a few miles, my trees still have too few leaves as it is.

I kinda thought maybe you were getting drowned there in the Huston area.
I see we can't always believe the weather channel.

I hope it continues to drop rain down there where it is needed most, and forget about that severe stuff!

Johnboy
If you get to much water in your area, see if you can get it diverted a little more to the SW.

How all you TX. folks doing with the wind and all the rain and flooding that has been going on down there lately?

From what we see on the news it looks pretty tough down there in places.

Yeah, I'm a bit concerned about the weather out west myself. Heading out a week from tomorrow, destination Kerrville, Tx. Overnight stops in Fontainebleau State Park, Louisiana, and Stephen Austin State Park, Texas on the way. Weather forecast for Kerrville is 80% T-storms for next Wednesday, my scheduled arrival day.

Well,
the forecasters are the same 'scientist' that say we are heating up the planet to melt us in 100 years, but yet they miss TOMORROW

it was a LOT of rain in DFW, but thank GOODNESS that's all we had... and we NEVER wish rain away where I'm at...
even with all that, the lakes are still down

Good rain today, 1-3/4 inch, more on the way. On the one hand, we are just on the fringe of 'tornado alley'. And this is the wettest spring in at least 5 yrs. Both good things. But OTOH, all this rainfall will have very little impact on hill country lake levels.

Well, the lake levels around dfw all changed yesterday except for one or two exceptions... instead of 10 to 20 ft below normal, now they are 5 ft above normal and with the ground (and everything!!!) saturated, the rains coming this week will make for some serious flooding in the low lying areas...

Sounds like that weather down there is getting to be a pretty serious thing for a lot of Texans.

We have had plenty of rain that is for sure and more on the way. There is a plus side to all of it. The lakes that have been extremely low for years are finally getting some much needed water. Lake Medina west of San Antonio is 37% full compared to 2.7 at this time last year. Lake Travis has risen 18.67 feet during the last 30 days. So although there has been some flooding in areas there is also a positive to all this rain.

2007 was the last time Lake Travis was full and while it is much improved right now, it still is 20+ ft below normal and about 40 ft from full. Summer 2011 my well could only pump about 50 gal. before sucking air and Sept. 2011 after the fire, we walked across the dry Pedernales river bed to get to our property. From 2012 thru 2014 the river was really just a small stream. This year with steady rain it has been a small river, maybe 30 ft wide and 2 ft deep. And from Jan. thru last week the lake was up 12 ft.

Plenty of rain Sat. night, yesterday morning I woke up to hear the river and here is what we saw. While many newcomers to the area haven't seen such a sight, I've seen a few that were worse.
In the bottom right corner you can see a power boat, almost in the water. Owner didn't get it out in time and it has been sitting since 2010. Lake Travis came up 9 ft in less than 24 hrs and now over 50% full. It is probably up another 5 ft today, but will need to come up more before that boat can be moved.

The Blanco River was much worse, flood stage was at 13 ft and the gauge topped out at 40 ft. Several hundred homes are gone and with no dams on that river, there are more problems downstream. The central Texas area has a history of Memorial Day flooding.

Glad to hear you are finally getting some rain, but sorry to hear that it is all at one time...

More rain today and that power boat is now floating, the river will rise more tonight due to heavy rain around LBJ state park. Plus 50% of the flood gates are now open up stream on the Colorado river as well. So, Lake Travis will get close to normal level pretty soon.

It's nice to hear the lakes will have a chance to return to normal, or at least near normal levels, but the devastation in some areas is just horrendous.
Lives and homes lost in some areas is really sad.

On our way home after two months out. Towed thru Houston on Saturday, San Antonio on Sunday just missing the big stuff. Sunny and warm here in Alpine, TX. Toured the Hill Country in April when the flowers were outstanding and made up for last year when things were so dry. Stayed near Lake Travis then so saw how low the water was. Amazing it's filling so quickly with the big storms. Now if it'll just quit snowing at home so that it will all melt!
