Winter in Tx

Yeah, first day of winter and it is a lazy dog day, near 80 degrees.

It's pretty warm here in Florida too, close to 80 and humid.

Lloyd, we had to de-winterize as well. Took the long sleeve shirt off. And, DW had to open all the windows (well that was because something got overcooked).

What a difference a day or 2 can make Larry, supposed to get down in the 30s Wednesday & Thursday.... No snow in the forecast as of yet though.

Stan, it's easier too cool off than it is to warm up... Plus I don't have to mess with the white stuff

Yeah, I knew the cool down was coming, and that is why I posted while it was very nice outside.

As I get older, my tolerance for cold is not as good as my tolerance for heat. But then I'm not good with either. Besides, inactivity is the answer if it is too hot, which fits well with being retired. But when it is too cold, it is either keep moving or put on so many clothes you can't move.

Finally, there is clearly a reason for the 'snow bird' concept, but I've never heard of a 'sun bird'. Ah, now I remember, unless you are a 'snow bird' then snow and ice are an issue just to go to the store or post office. When it is too sunny outside, I just go to the store at night and who needs to go to the post office anyway?

I for one LIKE the change of season...I actually like cold weather...I worked outside for 40 some years and have to agree with LeBo, you can always put more on, but can only take so much off before you get arrested...

Like sleepyT said, I too like the change of season and snow to a point around the holidays, even though we are having a mild winter and yet to have snow this winter here in Central Illinois, but after the holidays are over bring back the warmer weather.

Lets face it, I don't think any one is saying that they like EXTREME cold , or EXTREME heat, or for that fact an EXTREME snow event like Buffalo N.Y. had a month ago...What I am saying though is, there are millions of people that do not mind cold weather, and I am one of them. If that statement was not true no one would live in the Northern portion of this country. What I don't understand is why some people that live in warm climates seem to insist that living in a warm climate is better than any other. Truth be told I would not want to live in Texas or Florida any more than I would like to live in Alaska or North Dakota, or Montana. Kinda like it where I am here in Pa. I get a little bit of both, hot and cold...IMHO...

I like the change in seasons as well. I wish we would get more snow here. We tend to get a lot of freezing rain and ice. I don't like that!

A year without snow is like a year without Christmas. Look forward to a few good blizzards. My only concern is the power going out, don't have a generator ....yet. Being retired and not having to go anywhere in the snow storm is what makes it ok with me. Having a good tractor and snow blower makes fast work of cleaning up the driveway.

I used to live in PA before I joined the service and while stationed in northern Japan, we saw 43" of snow in a 3 day weekend. We averaged 120" per year there, yes 10ft per year. I came to TX in 2001 and don't plan to leave. we have four seasons, but winter only last a few weeks. Best of all no white stuff!
We get our fair share of cold weather. It's in the upper 30's now. But a few weeks ago it was in the 70s, Nothing like playing golf or putting up Christmas lights in shorts and a t-shirt.
In the summer we do things in the morning and evening and if I have to be outside when it's 100 degrees, it's easier for me to cool off by jumping in a pool, lake, river or even using my outside shower.
As I said earlier, it's much harder to warm up than it is to cool off.

Winter is clearly on it's way out, well here anyway. As the storms move east we have enjoyed sunny days with temps in the mid 70s. The live oaks are beginning to drop a few leaves, meaning new buds are developing. I'm looking forward to this season, I've still got a number of live oaks that just haven't recovered from the fire and drought and if they don't put out a good amount of new foliage this year, then they may never recover.
