Withdrawal

I already miss living in my 250 rb. I think I like living in it better than my 2400 sq. ft. home.
Leaving for Florida last week of Jan. but I'm not sure I can wait that long.

Pine Island across from Ft. Myers. I made the decision kind of late and had to take what I could get, so we booked 2 weeks at the St. James City KOA. I wanted to go as far south as I could so I didn't take any extra chances on being cold since I'm going down there to be warm.

I wanted to be closer to a golf course, even an executive golf course would be fine. Wouldn't have minded to be farther south. And I think I paid too much for a facility I'm not really sure about. $805 for 2 weeks.

We're new to this so we'll look around while we're down there and find a suitable spot for next year and book earlier.

Kind of had my heart sat on this one place because it has an executive golf course on the property but they were full. They were also cheaper than I'm paying for where I'm going:

If anyone has a spot they like in the south of Florida with an executive golf course on site or nearby, please let me know about it so I can plan for next year.
I don't need 18 holes, 7,000 yards, and 100 dollar green fees. I just like to play a little while I'm down there and work on my short game.

And wear shorts, sit outside with wife and my huge Lab Gunner, and drink and cook on the grill and look at the sites.

That looks like a nice place! We are in central Florida, near Tampa. This is our eighth winter in the same RV park. We come in December and stay until near the end of March. Then we take a couple of weeks to get home, visiting friends and seeing sights on the way home.

Does it stay warm there?

I haven't been since I was a teenager over 40 years ago. I was told that if I went to Clearwater it was on the line and I was taking a chance on it not being real warm, and if I went north of there it wouldn't be real warm.

I want it to be close to 70.

It varies. We can get some cold temps, I have seen frost here. One day it's 82, the next day it could be 67. It tends to be somewhat cooler in January. One year it was cool all winter and never warmed up at all, staying in the 50s and 60s during the day and forties at night. Most years it is in the 70s. It's better than at home and does not snow.

Apparently the further south you go, the warmer it is, the smaller the RV lots and the more expensive the rent is. So you go where you feel comfortable - weather wise and money wise.

When it gets cold at night we do not run the furnace. If it is very cold, we use an electric blanket and I run the furnace for a bit in the morning to warm it up. No use burning up all that propane and end up just heating the outside! My husband likes the fireplace on cool nights when he watches TV.

Check out the KOA in Okeechobee. We were there last year. A 9-hole course on the site, along with 3 pools (family, kiddy, adult), a hot tub AND a bar! Yes, on a great KOA! Can't wait to get back there!

You've got me staring at that one. There are spots open and I'm considering cancelling my current reservation and booking there.

Okeechobee is even $300 more than I'm paying now so I guess I'll stay where I am. Tempting though with the golf course there.

Give them a call... they have a lot of flexibility with rates, and you can flex a little too, like back-in vs pull through. Don't know what the golf costs, but we only left the campground once to see local sights and restaurant. We made some nice friends. Hot tub, adult pool, fitness center and Shanty Bar are all within a few hundred feed of each other. (No, I'm not a paid spokesperson for KOA, we just really like this place!) LOL!

Your thread makes me smile Kingfisher. We have the same rig and feel the same way - totally blessed! Just got my tow vehicle serviced today for our trip to FL beginning this Thursday. Thinking about getting on the road with the wife and pup makes me feel like a very happy kid again!

We are staying in Panama City at the Emerald Coast:

Emerald Coast RV Beach Resort

We have tried a few KOA's and Thousand Trails campgrounds and want to experience something more upscale as we search to find the type of campground that best suites us. Ideally that will be State and National parks, but we have not yet cut the umbilical cord of full hookups.

Not as warm in the panhandle as one might like, but saves a couple of days driving and our time is a bit limited. Also will get to make a day trip to the Naval Aviation museum in Pensacola which has been on my list for a while.

Safe travels to you and hope you continue to have a blast!

I did find a place with an on site golf course, canceled pine island koa and got 2 weeks here for $200 less:

The Glades RV Resort | Home

South end of okeechobee.

I can walk to the golf course, or walk to the fishing hole.
