20LB or 30LB LP Tanks???

So I have to ask. I'm trying to save any tongue weight I can, but is the 30LB LP tanks a definite must have, or could we easily get away with the 20's? We are purchasing a 26BB in a few weeks so we mostly will be going to places that have electric hook ups and the unit includes an electric fireplace, so we "think" we would be using that as opposed to burning LP.

How much LP do you guys typically burn through? IE how often do you have to fill cylinders?

Tim, the largest user of LP is the furnace. I have gone through a 30 LB tank in a weekend when dry camping in cold weather. When using hookups, the tank will last about 6 - 12 months since for the most part it is used only when driving. You should be fine going to two 20 lb tanks and then swap them out when dry camping. You could also get one refilled somewhere if needed.

With the type of camping you are doing, the 20 pound tanks should last you the entire season.

Do you mean a--Sunset Trail Grand Reserve, model. ST26BB?
If that is what you are getting, I don't think I would worry about going to 20# LP tanks. That's only 20# extra LP and maybe 20 to 25# more tank.
That Ford sure should be able handle that.
What does it say on the sticker on the door post? That will give you thr front and rear GAWR, and the GVWR.

Sounds like someone may need to upgrade to a Ram 2500 with a Cummins if theyre worried about 45# on the tongue.... oops wrong thread!

I carry an electric hot plate and try to use campsite electricity when cooking. I haven't used my furnace because I haven't needed it with 2 Dachshund bed warmers. In the 2 years I've had my camper I haven't moved from the first tank of propane yet.

In all seriousness, I've done a year and a half of very in-depth research on choosing the right TV, for a TT that meets our needs. I've test driven 2500, 3500's, 250's and 350's. We are confident in the choice we made. 420lb of torque at 2,500 RPM I get the best of both worlds and 1820 of actually weighed payload. The good mpg of a daily driver, and the towing capability of 11,500. Now I'm anticipating towing 8500 at the max because I've learned from you guys that just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Also, I won't lie; My wife was due for a next new vehicle and no way in hell would I be able to not resent the hell out of her every time I saw her drive it

So 3 more years, I may move up. But for now. I'm very happy with the decision we made.

FAWR = 3450, RAWR = 3800, and GVWR=7000. On the way off the lot we stopped at a cat scale and weighed it empty with a full tank of gas at 5180. So GVWR - Empty weight gave me 1820 lbs of payload. Max tongue weight of 1,220 on the Class IV hitch.

I looked at Superdutys and the diesels come with a 2.5" class V receive but if you use the sleeve, max tongue weight is 1,250. Most shanks I've seen for WD hitches only have 2", and not 2.5". Gas models come with Class IV 2" only factory.

So in reality, unless I bought a new superduty and swapped out the trailer hitch, I'd only be gaining 30lbs of tongue weight.

I tend to overthink this stuff to a fault. *laughs*

Ok, I'm gonna bird walk a bit here, but it's somewhat in the ballpark of this thread. do the Sunset Trails have an LP hookup at the rear where the grill attaches to the bumper, or are they strictly BYOB. (Bring Your Own Bottle) Like the Coleman 16.4 oz kind.

Steve, since the 26RB and BB are nearly identical, how is yours to tow. We have the exact same setup for the F-150, minus ours is XLT. Any idea on your actual tongue weight?

Tows great. I did add air bags and "E" rated tires to prevent the little bit of sway I felt (maybe imagined). Didn't particularly like the low profile tires on there anyway. Lots of power...

I think our tongue weight was around 745 dry, and I'm guessing another 100 or so with the items in front storage compartment, never weighed it. With the W/D bars it is distributed throughout the truck and trailer. I know I'm not over on the trailer...with the air bags and new tires I feel comfortable putting more weight in the bed of truck while hooked up. I generally put 30-34 lbs of air in airbags.

Awesome! I think we may go with the Roadmaster suspension instead if we see any squat as it looks easy to install and adjust. What WD setup did you go with. We are looking at EAZ-Lift R6 because I really like the idea of the Sway control disengaging in turns or when backing up and turning after 10 degrees. What rated bars did you go with for them and did you notice any squat initially?

I have CURT distribution bars and sway bar. Sorry, don't have the info on what rating they are. They were installed with trailer and the paperwork is in trailer. I can get it if you need it, just pm me if you need details on anything. There was some squat. I had four links on WD chain hanging. I am now down to three with the airbags. Sounds like you have done your homework, and everything you listed sounds great...

I've see where in the fall when on our extended hunting trip, we have used better then four 30# tanks.
