4 years old -- Roof and Water Heater

Hi,

My 2014 Sunset trail is putting on some age.

Chatting with some other campers, they made some offhand suggestions about things I didn't know I needed to think about.

1. The Roof. Someone mentioned that I should "treat" the roof. I wasn't aware the roof needed any maintenance other then making the seams are all sealed with self leveling sealant every few months. What, if anything do I need to do to my roof?

2. Hot water heater. Someone else mentioned I needed to clean my HW heater. That being said, I do notice that the water coming out of my shower (only my shower) has a smell to it. I can't quite pinpoint the smell but it's very distinct. Almost a faint whiff of skunk, but not really. Is there anything I need to do to my HW heater?

Thanks!

Mike

Cleaning the roof is fine. It does not need any treatment.

Instead of caulk, I'd tape all the seams with Eternabond tape.

I flush the whole water system with 1 tablespoon of pool chlorine in my water tank. I run all water faucets until I smell the chlorine. I leave it in overnight and flush with fresh water the next day. Drain the hot water tank between camping trips helps.also.

Mark made a believer out of me on disinfecting the water system using the pool chlorine (pool shock)
One more thing you might want to check out is this clean out tool. If there is sediment in your water heater, this will help get it out.
