Has anyone replaced the fan motor in the A/C unit?

Mine is vibrating bad , Shaking the whole unit. I took off the shroud to see if anything was interferring with the fan; but found nothing. When I touch the fan motorit's vibrating like it's out of balance.I think the problemmight bethe motor bearings. It doesn't seem to be too bad of a job to replace the motor.

Anyone out there have a problem like this?

Looks like a bolt on/off job when i was cleaning mine (Dometic). Sure there isn't a small nest on the underside of the blades or shaft? Did you check to see if the motor itself is loose?

You sure there is not something stuck to one of the fan blades like a dirt duabers nest or something making it out of balance? I would think it would be a fairly easy job to replace the fan motor if that is what it is. You could probably get a replacement at Grainger or an online source.

The other thing to chck is the screw that holds the fan to the shaft. Make sure it is on the flat and tight.

+1 Check for critters.

Reminds me of the night that a mouse ended up in the squirrel cage fan of my Terry's furnace. It shook so bad that I thought the damn thing was going to blow up. The next day when I found the mouse it was dead...not sure if it was from dizziness, the excessive G forces or the sail switch he bent during his ride.

Well turns out it was critters. Your replys made me look closer.

Mud daupper nest. Not on the fan blades but on the front face of the fan.

When I first looked at it, I couldn't see the front face of the fan so I just looked at the fan blades on the outside and the squirrel cage on the inside. Well turns out a big mud daupper nest on the front face covering half the face, thus the unbalance. The only way I found it is by feeling the front face of the fanbecause you can't see it.

I think I'm going to get some #8 screening (1/8" mesh) and attach it to the inside of the A/C shroud. It's a Duo-therm unit .When I first took off the shroud , there was 4 wasp nests that I sprayed. Yes I got stung twice before I could get off the roof. Now with the mud daupper nest, I need to do something to prevent the critters from setting up home in my A/C unit.

Thanks everyone for your replys, you saved me both time and money.
