Annual Inspection

I have not read of anyone discovering that CrossRoads no longer requires an annual inspection report filed with the company.

I called to discover if a local RV repair shop could do the inspection instead of my trip to CW. Tom in customer service gave me the information that inspections are no longer required.

The annual inspection is required in order to keep your warranty valid. Since the warranty has been shortened to one year, you are already out of warranty by the time your first inspection rolls around.

I thought the warranty on the roof membrane is 5 years.

I was mistaken, I just dug out my paperwork and mine actually has a 12 year warranty. However, after the 2nd year, the amount covered is progressively reduced.
Heres a link I found to the warranty. Make note of paragraph 4, requires quarterly inspections by the owner be kept in writing.

So now the question becomes, did Tom send you a link or something in writing about no longer needing inspections? Does it also include roof inspections?

You know the old saying, "if it isn't in writing...it didn't happen!"

From my 2012 manual - have the inspections done when I have the NY State inspection performed.

My 2014 manual does not require annual inspections. The Alpha documentation says that the PURCHASER should make quarterly inspections and document them. It does not say the inspections must be conducted by the dealer.

My 2013 RV has the 2/5 warranty with the same instructions as stated by NorskeNY's. That is why I contact CR for information. As stated, Tom says, "no longer required"..DavisK gives us the gospel according to CR for the newer models. I have nothing in writing from Tom.

It is suggested the roofing material be cleaned 4 time per year. That would create a visual inspection. I would just make good notes and have my wife take pictures of me washing the roof. The camera will give the date and time if I need to create better proof.

I have a friend that has a Redwood. He told me they no longer have to do the annual inspection.

I get mine done on location here in Rockport. Runs around $160 per inspection. This includes resealing any areas that need it. As long as I'm here, I will continue it, regardless of requirement. Money well spent. Something else I don't have to do.

I called ExploreUSA and was told quoted nearly 3x as much.
Glad I didn't take it in. Still have a few months until our 1 year point.

Yep...........we'd probably have to quit getting the inspections if it came to taking it to the dealer. Minimum would probably be two weeks, and then I feel sure they would tear something up. Plus the whopping price they would want!

All of my work is done at the local Camping World. I think their labor rate now is $130.00/hr.

First year inspection - 1/2 hour labor and 1 tube of caulk ($75.00)

2nd year they found staples coming through the driver side of the roof on trailer - CrossRoads paid for the repairs.

3rd year I paid for re-caulking most of the roof - don't think it really needed it - but had it done to continue the warranty ($299.00)
I put new tires on the trailer before I took it in for the NY state and CrossRoads inspection.

With all of the issues we have had with our unit I don't want to take any chances on voiding warranty.

If you don't have it done at a dealer I would at least get on the roof every year and check the seals, caulking and look for staples coming up through the roofing.
