Atwood hot water heater problem

Hello people, I hope all is well with everyone/everything. I have a Atwood G6A-8E in my 2012 crossroads camper trailer that heats up in cycles for 5- 20 seconds at a time and never reaches the full temperature. Has anybody ever had this problem or know what it could be???

Thank you

If you are comfortable with working with/on it then i would pull the burner assembly and check the orifice for any obstructions. Spiders like to build in there and could cause your condition. You would need to blow it out or use some carb cleaner DO NOT use anything to push thru it like a needle as you could change the size and then have more problems.

Let us know what you find.

After you clean it, install a screen cover. It helps to keep out most insects.

Thanks Dagst1 for the info. I am not leary about working on the heater. I had a old camper that had spider webs in the burner tube, blew it out and it worked great................no such luck this time...lol. My wife just informed me that she had hot water in the morning but it would not be hot later and that is when it started to cycle ALOT. I am leaning towards the thermostat, what is your opinion?

I don't believe they come that size. You would use a 4.5"x4.5" size.

So you would need to purchase the 4.5x4.5 ones.

markandkim....I changed out the control board, cleaned up the igniter probe and checked for 1/8 inch spacing, took out the orifice and that was clean, installed a new thermal cut-off. I am at my witts end on this problem. The only thing left is the thermostat or the gas valve. Anybody have any ideas??? hope everyone had a GREAT weekend

It sounds like the flame sensor is not 'seeing' flame. You should have a nice clean blue flame, no yellow in the flame. Adjust the air mix tube until you have a good blue flame.
The flame should go across the flame sensor, and usually the end of the sensor turns a dull orange from the heat. If not, it needs to be adjusted to be in the flame properly. Atwood/Dometic calls it a ' Local sense Electrode'.
I bet the flame sensor or it's orientation is the problem.
It is easy to remove the whole gas tube assembly to clean, inspect and adjust it.
I found a great Youtube video that is very helpful for troubleshooting and maintenance.

if your changing your control board, don't waste your money with more chinesse junk. Get this American made electronic board from Dinosaur that have twice the size components in them with 3yrs warranty. Best move I ever made for my water heater.they'll be next for the furnace and fridge when there day comes. Read the reviews on Amazon, ebay etc. There all good for a reason.

Wingerdinger.............what a complete video you sent me......... Thank you. I know when the heater comes on it sounds like a jet engine but the man in the video tamed it down alot and it has a blue flame, so I am going to try that next weekend since my camper is 60 miles away on a lake front. Have a great weekend and I thank you again.
