Does positioning the lever toward one of the tanks override the auto-switch? And if not, how do you override the auto?
You point the lever at the tank that you are using out of, and turn the valve for the other tank open also, this should be in the auto switch over mode. If you don't want auto to work, don't open the valve on the other tank.
The switch is for showing if the tank is green or red (empty or closed). Auto switch looks for pressure and switches to the other tamk when the pressure is gone.
I assume your switch over is like most. The black lever points to the supply tank(one supplying gas) it should be written on the top side of the lever depending on which one is in service(being use).The auto switch over is built into the unit and amounts to letting gas out of the other tank when the supply tank is empty. This only happens if you leave both tank valves open.You can tell that the gas supply has changed to the other tank if the target which should be green has changed to red or you see mostly red in the window. You need to swap the black lever to the other tank at this time. The reason is so you can remove the empty tank to refill and main reason is because if your camping in the winter and using the camper gas heat, you can't get the full gas flow until the lever has been swapped to the other tank.In the auto swap you only get partial flow.If you are using the water heater on gas and stove and gas heat it most likely can't supply everything.At least this is how my unit works.
