I agree. A night spent in the TT is way better than a night spent in a motel!

I agree! I have an 11 and 9 year old girls and they love camping. They count down the days until the next trip. We don't buy the rigs as an investment. It's a lifestyle, their value is in our enjoyment and the experiences we gain. Happy, happy, happy camping!

In July 2013 we and friends towed to Jekyll Island as a group...When we left the only reservation we has was the campground on the Island.

We took 3 days to get there..no hotels..no dirty rooms to worry about...great trip..stopped when we wanted - left when we wanted & had all we wanted.

Great time with family & friends, also our first out of state trip in a TT. We kept good expenditure records and found we saved approx $300.00 and had a wonderful time. Based on the prices once we arrived..we save $$ on eats...lodging..pets (we have larger K9's) no kennel issues - If we have to kennel we don't go.

We will use those $ records as a baseline for planning.

I agree we figure camping at $10 to $22 a night, we save a quite a bit over a hotel and we enjoy our evenings instead of sitting in a boring hotel room. We find if we are gone a few weeks we have saved quite a bit of money as we tend to spend more at home than away from home. I love our camping trips.

I am not saying that there is a lessened value in camping and I need to use this calculation to justify our doing it, but it does help in making certain decisions. If anything, keeping track of this cost pushes me to camp more so I have financial incentive to get the nightly cost down. More nights equals lower cost per night.

I do however also like a nice hotel room overlooking a nice beach on a Hawaiian island as the shipping cost to get the camper there is way too high.
