Axles

Be aware if you have a 28ft or larger unit and only have 4400# axles get prepared to change them out, I went to 6000# axles which should have been on the trailer from factory.
My unit is 30ft 9600# dry

My25 rb had 3500 lb axles and needed them to put 4400 lb ones on with matching springs as the axles bent and wore all tires plus tires were bottoming out and I was 600 lbs under max weight...they had no problem doing it.

My unit is 2013 and left it to long, but as soon as I noticed the tires wearing on the 4400# axles I talked to the dealership, there reply was did you notice tire wear in the first 90 days live and learn.

I had one of the 4 leaf springs break on my 2016 Crossroads Altitude. They were never made to support a Gross weight of 14,000lbs+. I have replaced them with 6 leaf springs and upgraded 1/2” shackles that can be greased.

My 250RB Zinger had 3300# axles. These were barely heavy enough for the dry towing weight of my trailer. Did a long trek from Alberta to Newfoundland and the rest of maritimes - a great trip but with over 15,000 Km of towing wear and tear, we found the axles were too light resulting in a bent axle, wheel alignment and uneven tire wear problems. Rather than having to be continually concerned with these issues,, decided to replace with 6000# axles. Only towed 1,300 Km last year, but found the trailer pulled better and smoother - especially over any rougher areas. (increasing to 6000# axles increases the tire rim and tire size - so be sure you have the fender clearance for that). I should now have all the axle I’ll ever need for my trailer. I still need to do more towing on my new axles to prove this - but the alignment shop told me if everyone upsized the way I did - his business wouldn’t be doing many trailer wheel alignments).

Having the same problem right now. My 33CK is 38' with Dexter 4400 lb axles. The inside of the rear tires are very worn; front tires look fine. The trailer is rated at 9650 lbs. My 4400 lb axles use 10" x 2 1/2" brakes. If I up to 5600 or 6000 lb Dexter axles will my 10" brakes bolt to the new axles or am I going to have to get larger brakes? (I was towing an axle weight of 8340 lbs.)

Not sure if the brake size changes when you upgrade the axle. My new axles came with an entirely new hub and brake assembly. I did wonder if there would be any issues with the wiring to the new brakes, but there were no issues with that.

Etrailer lists 4400 lb axles with 10x2.5” brakes held on with 4 bolts and 5200 to 7000 take 12x2” held on with 5 bolts.

Correct, both have 5200 lb axles but 10inch brakes for a 4400 lb and 12 inch brake for the full 5200 lb axle.
