I was wondering how often do you pack your wheel bearings? I haven't a maintenance schedule so I thinking I might due for one. Do you do it yourself? Is there a video out there somewhere that shows how to do it?

Thanks for the help,

Joe

I think seeing some place every 10K or once a year. I do mine before

the camping season starts and have not exceeded the 10K. I have my

done at a local RV service center but thinking of doing them myself

next year as I will have more time.

I do mine myself but then I have done lots of bearing repacks. If you have to ask how it is done, I would find an experienced friend and have them show you what to do so you can do it next time. It is not very difficult (although it can be time consuming) but there is definately some tricks to repacking bearings by hand. I do mine every couple of years but then I don't travel full time like some do.

Or....you can spend your time golfing and let a mechanic do it for $100.00 or so.

I agree with Stan. It's also a very messy job. Have someone who knows what they're doing, plus the proper tools because the last thing you want to have is the wheel come off and pass you on the highway.

I haven't done it yet on this unit but my last 5ver was 10 yrs old and I had done it about 4 times after dragging it all over western Canada.

I also found my new unit has "bearing buddies" which I'm not a huge fan of. I'd rather take them apart, clean and inspect bearings and spindles as well as inspect brake linings.

Good luck

everytime you redo the bearings you should also adjust the brakes and check to make sure they are working. as with bearing buddies if you put too much grease in yuou may blow out the inner seal and then you will be into more trouble. the thing I do is check them every beginning of a new season same as I do at my work.
