The bed platform in my 30SK has a large bow in it. Both top to bottom and side to side. I'm trying to decide the best method of making it flat again. We upgraded the mattress to a much better matress than the original. New one weighs a little more but the wife and I only have a combined weight of 280 lbs. We continually roll to the middle.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to reinforce the platform? I could use thicker plywood but I also thought about removing the single center brace and replacing it with several 1x2 cross braces hoping that will take care of the bow in both directions. I'm open to suggestions. I will do something Monday as we are planning a trip nest week.

You could also take it off and turn it over then the center would be up until it settled back in.

A few pictures of your situation would be nice, so that we could give you a better solution.

The only way that I can see that would be a permanent solution would be to add at least three pieces of steel angle iron at least 1-1/2" on each leg. You would need to anchor them with 3/16" minimum carraige bolts coming down from the top of the platform to eliminate any protusions on top. This would not only straighten the plywood, but keep it straight. Wood, because of its grain, would most likely end up mimicing the plywood slab, and you would still have a curved slab after a period of time.

Boge, I had the same problem on our 30sk. We weigh about 300 together and we also added a memory foam topper to the mattress that added a lot of weight.

I put a 2x4 across the lower frame perpendicular toour bodies. It is not attached to the matress platform. It is mounted flush with the top of the frame so that when the mattress platform is lowered the plywood rests on it and it straightens out the bow in both directions. I put it under the center mass of our bodies and that is just about where the deep storage pockets under the bed start. I put a brace on each side of the 2x4 down to the floor to help support it.

It works great. No more rolling to the middle and I didn't add any weight to the already too heavy mattress platform.

Boge, so you say with the bow in the bed you both end up rolling to the middle? I don't see this asa problem. I think my next modification will be to remove the center bracing.
