Bike rack question

I want to put a bike rack on the back of my 2014 Sunset trail 28 BH. I was told by po that it wasn’t recommended. Is this true? Anyone done this?

Unless you have a receiver mounted to your frame or use mount-n-lock bumper support brackets it’s not recommended. Bumpers are not strong enough by themselves. I have the mount-n-lock bumper supports on mine and the mount-n-lock receiver and have had great results. Here’s their website if you decide to go that route. https://mount-n-lock.com/safetystrut...bumper-failure

You can add one to your bumper only if you add a couple eye screws to the corner of trailer, where the rubber trim is. Then ratchet strap around bikes to stop bounce ...never had a problem and know they would t bounce , did it to my 2013 and works great.

Update

Thanks for the replies. I looked at the bumper. It is welded to the frame via box tubing. So even with the Mount n lock, I would be relying on the weld from the tubing the the frame. I reached out to Mount n lock to see if they have any other plates to extend the safety bracket. Otherwise I might cut off the bumper and mount it directly to the frame with Mount n lock’ s heavy hauler bumper mounting brackets. Then I can mount the receiver directly to bumper. Other option would be installing a separate hitch receiver directly to frame.

I would take the camper to a weld shop and have them suggest the best way to get the results you want as to the stability of the bumper for hauling your bikes...IMHO...

That is what I did and had a hitch receiver welded directly to the frame rails. Very sturdy for a Bike rack or carrying rack and great piece of mind.

My bumper is tucked in underneath the trailer, so I don't think there is room to attach a rack to it. Is there a known solution for this?

Weld or bolt a receiver hitch to the frame. Never use the bumper alone.
