Black tank

The last two trips the handle on our black tank has been hard to open and even harder to close. We own a 2013 Crossroads Sunset Reserve 30RE. We use the GEO method in the black tank. The gray tank handle is still working properly.
What could cause this & how can I correct it?
Thanks,

George

George, my 13 Crossroads Rushmore black tank cable was made out of braided cable. The two grey tank cables are solid cable. Have no clue why the used a braided cable for the black tank. Mine did the same thing. Anyway. I dropped the belly cover and replaced the cable with a solid cable. Works really nice now.

I went through this with our black tank cable operated valve. I just replace it with an electric valve. After I got the old valve out, I found the cable was binding. Last month, our galley tank got to where it was impossible to operate. I took the handle off, slide a piece of clear 5/8 tubing down on the threaded outer sheath on the cable. Tightened a hose clamp down on the threads, and sprayed RV silicone in the hose. It was very slow going into the cable, so I took the air compressor, adjusted the pressure regulator down to around 2 PSI, and pressurized the hose. Bingo! I can easily operate the valve now.

Mix some vegetable oil in hot water and pour it down into tank. Let sit overnight. It should loosen up the valve and lubricate it.

I dropped the belly cover and replaced the horrible cable and valve with an electric version- best thing I ever did. Still great after 3 years.

Good luck

What brand of electric valve did you use. Seen several types, don't want that to fail.

Thanks,

I used the Valterra EZ electric waste valve system. I had to look it up. I had installed it 3 years ago and forgot about it. Good that it performed so well that I could do that. I surely never forgot about about all of the hassles those original cable valves gave me. I replaced one of those and it failed too. For me, electric is the only way to go.

Good luck

I installed the same valve on our black tank. At least four years ago...no issues.

I went with the DrainMaster Premium valves (expensive, for sure) as I wanted stainless gears. These were install last fall and so far this winter they have performed flawlessly (minimum standards, flawless performance).

I still need to add 2 more control switches but will do that when we get home in April.
