I prime my tank with maybe a half cup of Calgon (Take me away and a squirt of tide or dish soap (Dawn) whatever is handy in 6 gallons of water and use lots of water flushing. It's been working. I put it in after I dump before heading down the road as well.I figure it sloshes around, coats the tank, the thought being it makes the walls slippery like your skin with soft water. Many fulltimers just use a lot of water. A major issue is not creating a "pyramid" of dried @#&* directly below the pot. If the solids are floating or somewhat submerged WE KNOW the odor is diminished. Just make sure you dump a full load then close the black tank valve till she's full again. I'm a green kind of guy and prefer to use less chemicals-some of which don't break down quickly if at all. This is similar to the Geo method.

Tom explained it pretty much the way it is. Any kind of soap with water and the liquid water softner after each tank dump. This helps clean the tank and the soft water keeps it slick. It also doesn't hurt to add a little bleach a couple times thru the summer. Do a search on the internet for GEO METHOD to read about this process.

A way to clean your tank of the big pile of "Stuff" is to put about 5-20 gal of Water in the tank then dump 5gal or more of ice just before atrip. repeat until all goneIwouldnt use the geo method at the sametimethe foam might slow things down"slush wise".

Hmm. Maybe if you just feed everbody greasy food everything will just slide right out!
15 years of using black tanks and I find that as long as you flush the tank out good when you dump it, you never have a problem.

OK so what if you want to swap to the GEO method & have been using chemicals right along, is there a flushing process to change over?

Just drain your tanks and flush them and start using the GEO method. That is all I did when I changed over to it on our old Cruiser.

Can I ask a question? Has anyone stuck a camera in their tank to see what's going on? I can't believe all these problems. For years, most of the time I don't even use chemicals. Never ever have I had a problem. When the black tank is full, I empty it. If it's a weekend trip empty it before I come home. The only thing I do is make sure I run plenty of water through it.

A lot of the fulltimers just use A LOT of water. But then again their tanks are constantly in use. Many of us have the Trailers sitting between trips. I'd think that allows "stuff' to dry to the sides and bottom if it's not flushed out well. I've used the GEO method since my Cruiser was new, flushing well after use. When I open the toilet valve I get almost no odor. I'm happy

I started using the GEO method last year and found that there is less odour from the hose when I drain the tank. I have a clear plastic elbow fitting that allows me to seewhen the rinse water in the black tank is relatively clear. It usually takes two 5 minute tank rinses to get relatively clear water going down the sewer from the black tank.

I'm not a full timer. Again, I've never had any issues. My old trailer didn't even have the flush system. I put the wand down the toilet and used a Johny chock. Now I can use the external connection. Seems to work fine for me. The only time I use chemical is if I'm boon docking and need to travel without dumping the black tank.
Seems to work for me without all the hassles of mixing this and that.
