Black tank valve
We have a 28rl sunset that is a 2012, our black water tank valve leaks. While going down the road the handle works it's way out causing waste to escape to where the hose connects. When you take the cap off to connect your hose you are standing in waste. We have had it back to camping world for repairs but can't seem to get it repaired. Now when you walk into the camper it stinks. Any ideas? Anyone else had similar problem. Wife is very unhappy. They say they have replaced the valve..I am not sure that I believe them.

Not sure of how the 28RL is set up, but my valve is 8-10 feet back from the actual discharge fitting (where you attached the drain hose). I installed a secondary valve at the hose connection as a safety valve just for that reason. That would be the easiest fix. The other thing you could do is replace/repair the valve that is leaking (again?).

Valterra T58 Twist on Waste Valve | eBay
This would allow you to have a second valve just twists on like the cap.

I carry a 2 gallon bucket that I put below the valve when I take the cap off. I get some discharge but at least it goes into the bucket instead of on the ground until I can connect.
With long gloves on it doesn't seem to be much of an issue.
Nothing worse then waiting in a dump line and watching goober cover the drain area, knowing you're next!

Never had that problem with any of our other campers, so I kind of went brain dead with solutions . I really like these ideas. I am taking camper back on weds to have the front nose piece replaced, not only has it faded but stress cracks in the fiberglass. Crossroads is covering the whole thing parts and labor. My wife said if they can't fix a valve how can they do this project.

Twist on valve is the only way to go! I tried the bucket thing and still got tired of getting waste on my hands. Best thing I ever did

I, too, use a twist on Valterra valve from Amazon.

Back to the original problem. Do all the things they mentioned, i.e. twist on valves, bucket, etc. But I'd try to stop the source by wrapping a bungee cord around the black valve to keep it from working loose. Or even perhaps rotating it physically. If gravity is pulling the valve one way, maybe you can reverse it or halt it with a bungee.

Took camper in had long discussion with service mgr. Also explain that the inside smells like a septic tank. Some how leakage has gotten in the underbelly. He is going to find what seems the problem. The wife is suppose to be ordering a valve, regardless that's going on.so will give him a chance to correct the problem.

We had a problem with the black tank on the Jayco we owned. The pipe going into the tank was not lined up properly with the hole in the tank. It wasn't a problem until Hubby filled the tank completely as a cleaning measure and the tank dropped a bit. Sewage spilled out after that. We had to have the black tank replaced.
We did buy the Valterra twist on valve as per recommendations from previous posters. The only problem we have had with our Cruiser is sometimes the valve does not close all the way and sewage fills the pipe. When we were going to dump, we had a mess. That will not happen any more!
