what cant you take food wise across the border into the states from canada

It's been a couple of years since I was there, but you can "ggogle" U.S. customs eregulations and get the answer.

The last time we went into Canada you could not take more than a small amount of alcohol and no fruits or vegetables as I recall. If Ii remember correctly they didn't like our potatoes.

you will need paper work for any animals showing all shots up to date. NO Fire arms what so ever, I would buy your meats and veggies/fruits after you cross, just makes it easier to cross

Bascially nothing unless it is in a can or dry goods. Same as Canada and alcohol I believe is a bottle each unless you pay duty. Being groceries/liquor is cheaper in the US, just buy it there.

I think maybe the direction of travel is being confused here.
They want know---from Canada"to" the US.
Other then that, sorry , can't be of any help. It's been to long ago since I was crossing back and forth.

Last I knew: No fruits/vegetables, meat, firewood and as it was mentioned earlier pets need proper documentation. Also, pet food needs to be in original packaging.
Not too sure about alcohol.
I think a lot of it depends on the customs officer and whether or not he's in a good mood....

My in laws travel to the states often and one time they questioned the dogs documentation but did not ask about any meat (he had steaks in fridge for dinner that night) and the next time he crossed they didn't care about his dog but confiscated his steaks.... I bet that officer enjoyed his dinner that night

A couple of years ago, we crossed into the US at Detroit. We thought that we had nothing in the fridge but the US Customs officier found two errant lemons inone of thefridge crispers. He commenced to harangue us for having the lemons and threatened to arrest us for importing lemons. We had to do a lot talking and explaining in order to placate this guy. His advice to us was to come into the US with no food and buy it in the US. My advice is to take his advice if you're going into the States. Coming back is not a problem. Canadian Customs are only interested in whether you're bringing in alcohol and/or tobacco.

- I'm going to Lake George in August, and I was in NY state last year as well.
- I cross in Prescott, and it's probably the best crossing I've ever been too.
- Like the other posts though...no meat, fruit, or veggies.
- Canned goods usually aren't an issue, but if I'm going to have to go grocery shopping, I'll buy everything. It's not worth the hassle from the border guards.

- When I crossed in Prescott last year, I literally pulled up, told him where we were going, and then pulled on through. He didn't even ask for my dog's paper's!
- Better to be safe than sorry though.

de it across the border yesturday .wanted to know if we had meat ,fruit, veggies said no she had a dog treat for the dog,ery easy and nice crossing,nice lady.we crossed south of cardston alberta.
