Both Awnings Not Working

Strangest thing, both awnings on my 2014 Sunset Trail 32RL do not work. I have checked the fuse and it is fine. Both awnings (currently in the closed position that goodness) are controlled by independent switches so I have to believe it is not a motor or switch issue but rather a power issue. Just not sure where else to look since the fuse seems fine. Also, something that may be related is that I keep blowing out the porch light bulb. Not sure if its on the same power source. I have no other electrical issues. Is there a secondary fuse that I'm not aware of?

I would start by pulling the switches and checking for loose connections. Also check the 13vconnections at the invertor

Did you mean 12vconnections at the converter?
I don't think the sunset trail came with an inverter.

One of mine wouldn't open. I grabbed the roller and moved it back and forth manually. Then it finally went out. It came back in really slowly. I read on another forum that the rocker switches in the panel fail. What a PIA these things are when they are not working. Now I'm wondering if it's going to open and not close for me some weekend.

Sean, you will probably also find that when the unit is tilted just a little, the motor won't work. Looks like everything else on these, cheapest bidder got the contract....

I had the same problem. Checked the fuse, it was good, after fiddling, found fuse had poor contact. Has worked ever since and if I have the same problem, the first thing I will do is check the contact of the fuse.

Do you mean if the awning is tilted for runoff when it is rolled up?

Do these motors get any oil or grease, being they are outside and exposed to the elements?

no, I mean when the trailer is not balanced. Where I park mine at home it just a little off kilter. I don't sleep in it, but open it up to load it etc. A couple times the awning wouldn't close up. Couldn't figure out why after checking fuses. Then gave it a little push with a broom and it would slowly start to close. I believe because the motor is not strong enough.

Plugged in to shore power, or 12 v ? Kinda sounds like weak batteries.

I guess I can kind of see that, but it's attached to a solid surface. I can't see the body twisting that much to make a difference. Plus mine is level in my driveway.

Everything is level so that's not an issue and I'm plugged into shore power so battery (which is new) isn't a factor either.

Mine have always gone out fast and come in much slower. This year the awning on the slide is tediously slow. If a rain storm hit it would probably collapse before it cane all the way in. The main slide on the front is still the same as last year. Mine is plugged in as well and both batteries are at 100%.

Ill try and see if this helps you. If you can get the awning to go out all the way, get a ladder and locate the motor side of it. You will find the wiring harness that feeds the motor. Unplug the connector by the motor, and have someone press the awning switch, while you have a multimeter hooked to the wires that come from the camper feeding the motor. You should get a strong 12 volt reading in both directions. If not you may be having a voltage drop that is causing the problem. I just replaced my awning motor and its rpm rating on the motor is 32 rpm just so you know what mine turns.

Update: it was indeed a power issue. There was a loose connection on the fuse panel. Not something I could have fixed myself. The dealership fixed it in 30 minutes. They also took care of a couple other misc items so I knocked out several birds with one stone.
