Cap trim seal

Morning,
I have a 2017 crossroad 271RL, 30 ft, . The trim is bad in the cap that covers the screws. That an easy fix. My question is the tar on top that creates the water seal. Does anyone know if it's made for tt special?

I certainly hope it's NOT tar over that roof seam.!!!!
