Thanks SleepyT.

It gets better....

The LED light units I purchased came in a set of five. I bought them primarily to replace the three center ceiling ones as described above.

Yesterday, I installed the two spares, one in the bathroom controlled by the original wall switch, and the second over the mid cabin entry door.

The mid cabin door is our main ingress/egress point but the light was not fitted with a convenient switch on or near the doorjamb, only one on the fitting itself. This was always a nuisance when coming up the steps and into a dark void with an armful of shopping etc.

To remedy this, while I was replacing the light unit, I figured I'd install a small RF remote in the circuit, placed in the ceiling void next to the light fitting, it's controlled by a small fob permanently clipped to our keys.

Since we only use this light when coming and going, the fob button is proving to be ideal.

Added Safety, simple installation and inexpensive = Happy Wife.

It doesn't get any better than that.

Sorry about that Barry, I seem to have that effect on wives.

It really was a fun and most importantly (right now) relatively inexpensive mod.

The smooth look once done is striking, I wish I'd done it when I first thought of it.

Stay safe my friend, and thanks for the kind words.

Jacinda,

I found that a match head sized blob of spackle filled the hole nicely although it dried a bit off color, I just need to touch in the filled holes with ceiling colored paint. Job done.

Thanks for the recommendation though, it would certainly have been my next option.

And on that note, does anyone know offhand what color best matches the std ceiling finish?

Biggles,
If you take the piece of ceiling you cut out to a home improvement store, they can color-match it for you.

Wingerdinger, that's an excellent idea....thanks for that.

I used 'Eggshell White' a 'Delta Dreamcoat' color from a Hobby Store and it's pretty close, needs a little sheen added over the top which will probably do it as out the bottle it dries flat.

But if all else fails, once the restrictions ease off, I'm gonna venture out to the store like you suggested.

Stay safe.
