Cold Weather Package

This is a general question. I've recently sold my Cruiser Aire that was advertised with a Cold Weather Package. Considering the use we made of it in the southern US from December - April, I was happy enough with the insulation package, i.e. water lines outside froze once in AZ and once in NM but inside lines were fine. Obviously I winterize my unit for winters up north and would even winterize it when I left it in storage in AZ (just to be safe).

I'm looking at another unit (not Crossroads) that does not have the Cold (or Extreme) Weather Package. Other than the obvious risks of lines bursting in cold weather, I would like to hear from folks who do not have the Cold Weather Package and whether it presents much of an issue for them.

Thanks in advance.......Doug

I don't have the cold weather package on my Sunset Trail ST33FR. My old Rockwood it replaced did.

Initially, I was worried about it but now I'm not. The biggest concern is have now is the non-walkable roof.

In the Rockwood, it was really just some extra insulation and heat pads for the waste and water tanks to keep from freezing. Personally, I never used them. When it gets cold enough to turn them on it gets really uncomfortable in the camper with humidity issues.. water dripping down the walls, windows, etc. We chose to not camp in that kind of temps moving forward (or limit it to a couple of nights). If just camping in that kind of weather for one or two nights.. it's likely not going to freeze anyway.

Silver board

We used 1 inch silver board fixed in place with silicon in our cupboards, cabinets, and behind our sofa to help keep our light weight 5th wheel cooler. This was then covered with 1/8 in white hardboard screwed to the walls and then for beauty sake, covered with contact paper.

In addition we have silvered bubble wrap for each windows. While not perfect it seemed to have lowered the temp in hot weather and raise the temp in cold weather a few degrees.

My opinion is it is just a marketing thing they made a big deal about it on my Z-1 and of all the campers I have had up elk hunting it was the only one that froze up over all the years and not the coldest weather by far. So I would just do your own insulating and probably be better off.
