Does anybody know what Crossroads uses for their dark cherry stain? I'd like to make some modificatons and would like to make sure the wood color matches.

I think you can take a drawer out and take it to Home depot and they can match the stain. I have had them match stain in the past. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Remember to take a sample of the species of wood that you will be using for your mods.

Stain will show out differently on all woods, if you have a clean board and your drawer, then they can make the stain on your sample look like the drawer.

I bet if you called Crossroads, they would tell you what they used. That way it would match for sure.

I emailed crossroads and whoever replied didn't know but thought the stain was from ACE hardware. He advised me to call Randy. I'm leaving on a 2500 mile trip tomorrow so I guess I'll call when I get back. Just seems like that information (stain color) is something just about eveybody would like to know. I can't believe nobody else has inquired but then the dark cherry is relatively new for crossroads

My wife called Randy at the factory this AM and was told the cabinetry is all farmed out and they do not have access to the color code. He suggested as Shawn and Dan said, to take a drawer into a paint shop and have them match it. When I do I will post it. Chris says he found the light color stain. Moderator: is there a place where we could make that info available to all Crossroads owners? Better yet, wouldn't it be nice if Crossroads would include a can of stain just for routine touch-up....not much cost and would just continue to put Crossroads one notch ahead of the pack.

One last item....Wouldn't it be nice if there were more people like Crossroads Randy?

This project is primarily making a door for the hot water access instead of the 4 screw panel. I took a sample door to a professional cabinet shop and they stated the door was probably made with a commercial milling machine and has some very weird perimeter cuts which they can't do. But since this door is somewhat removed from other doors I thought maybe a common build would not be too noticable. So on to the stain problem. I called the factory again this A.M. cuz it just don't seem that difficult for them to call whoever that made the cabinets and find out what stain they used. So the factorycalled whoever and was told it is a "special mix"...why would anybody mass produce woodwork with a wierdo stain???? Anyway they cannot give me the very secret ingredients. They also stated buying the stain from whoever would be very expensive cuz it has to be shipped as a hazardous material. So off we go to Home Depot...took a cabinet door with me....slid a corner of the door into his computer thingy....sure enough...he found a match! And its ONLY $30 a gallon!!. And you must buy one gallon....but I only need about 1/2 cup. It appears at this time that God really wants that 4-screw panel to stay right where it is.

Ken,

Take the door to the store and look at the display of stains. They will have them on 2 differant woods, pine and usually oak, find one that is really close on the wood you will be using.

If you have a wood crafter store near you they have a huge selection of stains.

My local Sherwin Williams store also matches stain. I have had pretty good luck with Minwax colors being real close.

You might want to look at a actual stain/paint shop. I'm sure they will mix you a quart. Like everything else the box stores are cookie-cutter supplier's and not very useful for special requests.

It's usually soft pine for light weight.

When I called for the stain info, and they contacted the cabinet shop, the person at Crossroads told me several times to be sure to tell whoever that is testing the stain to tell them that the wood is MAPLE. Hard to believe. I did take a cabinet door off to take to Home Depot for the color match and the wood does not have any significant grain so I know it is not oak. Maybe the wood is some other cheap stuff but stains like maple. I have no complaints about the wood used....the doors on the cabinets are extremely well built.
