Electric awning

My wife and I just put a deposit on a 2021 Sunset trail SS253RB. I’ve never owned a trailer with an electric awning. It doesn’t have a wind sensor for the auto retract. On my old manual awning I would tie it down with rachet straps. Any way to do this with the electric awnings or am I best to just retract it when ever there is wind and at night?

We roll ours up and if the weather is questionable at night and if we leave for any time. Could save a insurance deductible.

You can anchor them down, but the edges will still flap. It's best to roll them at night, whenever you leave the rv & if high winds are predicted, it's just the push of a button.

Can you change your order and get one with the wind sensor?

They said they used to come factory installed but found that they failed quickly so they removed them.

Just had my awning replaced and ordered a wind sensor with it. The Rv service rep called and advised me not to get it installed. They have had a lot of problem with them. Repairs are expensive or you might have to replace the unit.
So I did not have it installed.

Just wondering about the wind sensors. (First of all never owned one). If you have a wind sensor I assume you can’t drop one end of the awning for rain run off. I know on mine if I drop one end I can’t roll it in.

The Carefree power awnings have a series of push pins on both arms to adjust the pitch, as long as there's no more than 3 holes difference between the arms you can extend/retract without readjusting.
I've heard/read too many issues with the wind sensors, either they roll up when a hummingbird flies by or won't roll up in a tornado.
As I've already stated rolling them up takes about ten seconds of pushing a button, easy least!

The tie downs don't always work either, false security...I had the screw in anchor pull out of the ground in a high wind and almost lost my awning...Luckily God was smiling on me that day...Still have the original awning...
