With climate change causing all sorts of strange weather we thought it might be prudent to get an emergency weather radio for our travels. Any suggestions on what has worked for you?

Ken:
Here is a link to what you asked. I went through the same thing awhile back. Ended up with a Midland.

Any of the recognizable brand names should be good. One feature that is very desirable is a radio that will turn itself on when a severe weather alert is issued. You can leave the volume turned up so that it will wake you up if it turns on, but won't bother you when it is in monitor mode.

Get a SAME alert radio. You can find the SAME code for your county at the National Weather Service's web site. Once set with the code the radio is on standyby and is automatically activated by the NWS. Ours went off a few minutes ago alerting us to a tornado watch for Denton County, TX until 10 this evening. Ours is a Midland. Edited by: artgpo

At home we use a Midland WR-100 with SAME technology, in the Cruiser we use WeatherBug on our SmartPhones.

This is the unit we use. Also have a Midland WR100. The Oregon seems to be more sensitive than the Midland and it is portable so you can take it with you if you have to run for cover.
