Does anyone have any experience with exhaust breaking systems on their tow vehicle? (auto transmission 7.3 diesel) We just got back from pulling our cruiser through the mountains and kinda got a scare a time or two coming off of some of the passes. just wondering if they would make much difference.

I have had several installed by customers in the past. They all have raved about them. I have a friend (Yes Don and Chris I have friends,) That has a dodge 3500 6.7L with it own drove it, and was really impressed. I would think that it would do the same for you, as it does for the big trucks.

I installed a BD on my 2002 F350 7.3 Auto with the torque converter lockup. Even with the 38' Paradise Pointe pushing you downhill, it was amazing how well it held the whole unit back. And as previously noted by spinella, it will cut back on your service brake wear and tear. Would highly recommend. Am currently waiting for them to come out with one for the 6.4 in my 2008 F450.

I put the Jacobs exhaust brake on my '06 Dodge ( Cummins 5.9) as it will be warrantied by Dodge. It works great, I use it all time, even when not towing. Coming out of Watkins Glen in August, I manually put the trans. in 2 and threw the exhaust brake on down a steep hill, it walked me right down the hill without touching the brake. I recommend it if you can afford it.

Thanks for the responses, I failed to mention I have a F250, from what I read on the Jacobs I thought it might be for Dodge only. I have been researching the D-Celerator, all the reviews are good, I let you all know whatI settled on. Thanks again.

The factory exhaust brake on my Dodge 6.7 works well, I really like it. Definitely cuts down on use of service brakes, and allows for more control decending mountains. Also helps the engine warm up faster on cold days. If I bought a truck that did not have an eb, an aftermarket one such as BD or Pacbrake would be my first order of business. A very useful tool.

On my 2002 F550 adding an exhaust brake would void the warranty as Ford doesn't recommend them. If you do add an exhaust brake make sure you also install an new exhaust temp sensor and the 4 inch exhaust. I had the trans command module and billet torque convertor installed because the ford trannys are crap compared to an allison and found banks to be very knowledgeable when I questioned them about an exhaust brake.

Would an EB be needed if there is a Tow/Haul mode?

We installed a Pac Brake on our Dodge Ram 2500 diesel with auto transmission. It is worth every penny when coming out of the mountains.

Installation was easy but you'll need an extra set of hands dropping the elbow in place.

We leave it on must of the time as it keeps the torque converter engaged. It also works in 1st & 2nd gear.

The electric air compressor and tank have come in handy; filling tires, starting damp charcoal and working the air horn.

Yes you can still have the EB That is completely different that the tow haul mode. The tow haul mode changes the shift points in an automatic transmission. The Ed is a type of braking system that works off the exhaust side of the motor
