We have a Sunset trail 2008. The thermostat doesn't always do it's job. If you side the cooling and heating adjusting buttons back and forth several times, then turn the heat back up it will OK for a week or two. Then it will not work again. Is it time for a new thermostat and what kind. Thanks in advance for your ideas!!

One note on the modification. When you pull the old thermostat from the wall feed the wires out they will be wire nutted inside with about a 6" lead. You can either separate the old thermostat at the nuts or cut the lead wires to fit the Hunter thermostat. Had my coleman thermostat not been malfunctioning and ready for the trash can I might have saved some lead on it to put back if I ever got rid of my unit. Thiswas a really simple upgrade and gives you instant satisfaction. I'll be honest I did not wire the 2 speed fan yet because we have not used low ever anyway. From Keith's link on mod my RV go to the link at the bottom in general referenceto convert coleman to hunter and follow the description and diagram at Klenger.net it worked well for us.
Lloyd bring your hunter t-stat to the Texas Rally I'll bet between us all we can get you up and running.

I must be dummer then a box of rocks!!!
I bought a Hunter stat shortly after we got the trailer. I have tried twice to install it with no success. I've had the head service tech at the dealership try to install it. No go there either.
One day the heating and cooling guy was here doing some work for us and I thought I will get him do look at it. He couldn't install it either. Soooo, I guess I'm destined to use the old original.

Charles, I have saved some of the links from over the years just in case they were ever needed.

Lloyd, if you bring that thermostat to the rally I bet we can find someone that can get it installed for you. It may cost you some smoked snacks........

That's the one I put in as well. It was to be a simple project, but adding the fan speed switch became a PITA.

1st switch I used to big of a solder gun and melted the switch, back to Radio Shack.
2nd switch bad switch, back to Radio Shack, Radio Shack now out of the switch.
Off to different RS for another switch.

Still one of the best mods I have done, despite the speed switch issues.

Hey John-

Can't tell you how many times I've gone to the Walmart up on 50 & 6 when camped at the state park in Fuita. Right in your neighborhood. And with a Loew's next door it doesn"t get much better than that.
