Gas mileage feed back
We have a 2000 Crossroads Prep Series M-1030 FKS. It's 7,040 pounds and 31 feet. We get 6.5 mpg, while pulling it with an 06 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with a 5.7 Hemi. We we are wondering if other get about the same or if ours is unusually low. - Clint, Clay Center, KS

With a gas truck, yep. I'd say that's about right.
I had a '10 Escalade pulling a 7200lb trailer and got between 6 and 8 mpg. Had to stop every 2 to 2.5 hours to fuel.
I can go for 5 hours with my Diesel on a single tank of fuel.

My 2016 CAF25SE Cruiser Aire 5er is 29’ and weighs 7,804 dry. In my 2020 Chevrolet 2500 Hd Custom Crew Cab with a 6.6 gas I get between 10-12 MPG.

Sorry but Dodges are notoriously poor on fuel economy. Mama's 2012 Jeep Liberty has $12000 in repairs at 50K miles. My last 6.0 Chevy 2500 got 10 mpg regardless of load. Traded up and love my 5.3 Chevy with 3.73 pulling 6500# 23" Zinger.

I have a 2013 Toyota Tundra 5.7 and have logged my mileage since I bought it used in 2018. Trailer is 2014 ST25RB at 30' and about 7000 loaded. Longest trip was 7,821mi and averaged 13mpg. The worst I ever had was 8mpg going through the mountains. City driving is usually around 15 and highway 18.

A lot of it depends on how you drive. However, I'd really question anyone that says they're getting over 10 mpg with a gasser if they're driving anywhere near the speed limit and have a 30'+ 7k trailer. Maybe some of the newer rigs but even that seems darn near impossible.

Pulling a lighter trailer, but we get low/mid-10's with regular - normally on the way out before we first refill with premium - and low 12's with premium. We lock in at 67 on the cruise control unless we have to drop it down due to local speed limits.

Quite impressive. My Sequoia has the same engine, my trailer is about the same weight and 27' long. In the mountains I'm getting 6mpg, on slightly hilly PNW I'm up to 8.5-9mpg at best. I can imagine getting 10 on plains going +/-50 but 13mpg? Even when not towing I get 13.5mpg average for 50/50 city-highway - these engines are rock solid but always hungry.

Why don't I see deflectors or high rise bed caps on all your rigs? Breaking up the airflow will provide a 1 to 2 mpg benefit. At $3.00 per gal., a 10% increase in fuel economy will pay off the investment in 3 to 4 years. And it reduces the stresses on motor and tranny.

I could see them working on the older campers with the flatter fronts. My buddy who had an older 08 Cherokee fifth wheel sold it and bought a newer Winnebago fifth with the aerodynamic front cap. He said the difference was phenomenal pulling the newer one compared to the old one. No deflector required.

There might be some out there that this helped, but I haven't talked to anybody yet that claims any benefit from them.
