We have a 2007 30SK 5er. We are currenly using the teflon plate on the trailer hitch that connects to the truck. Should we also put some grease on the pin? If so, is there a recommended kind of grease?

I use to put some white marine grease on the pin of our old Cruiser about twice a year. Our Paradise Pointe has a Sidewinder hitch so it does not swivel at the pin so no grease. I always cleaned the old grease off before putting the new on.

I use a spray red grease that was designed for the big rigs. I will spray it on twice a year. I clean the old stuff off with a brake cleaner

I don't use any grease at all. What is the grease for??? The rig rides on the teflon disk which I thought was the reason you don't need grease. I do grease/lubricate the truck receivermechanism and moving parts.

The pin need a little grease around the area that the jaws lock around. That fits fairly tight and will wear over time. The disk takes care of the hitch to plate surface contact.

I have a can of spray white grease and a light spray before we hook it up. I use the plate so there is no need to slap a bunch of grease on the hitch.

I am with Stan, I don't use any grease. My hitch has a single jaw to lock it in and it is not very tight. I keep an eye on the pin and the jaw and so far no wear in about 10k miles of towing. It can't hurt to put a little grease on the pin, but it can get messy so I don't do it.

I too have the Teflon plate and was told by the dealer that I would not need to use grease. The hitch manufacturer makes no mention of using grease other than to lubricate the hitch's moving parts.

I'll follow this thread carefully.

Your pin is metal to metal and should have some grease on it.

I beleive the pin is a moving part. It is also a moving part with some very high pressure points.

That's a good point on the high pressure points. You are pressing metal to metal with a lot of pressure and forcing it to move. Something is going to get chewed up with no lubrication. I keep some clean wheel bearing grease on the pin, and I also don't have any problems with grease on the hitch getting on anything else I throw in the truck bed.

No grease here Ever, Just the teflon plate. Paint still looks new on the hitch. Will never grease.
