Hail Damage

Does any one have any experience with a smooth wall Zinger or Sunset Reserve in a hail strorm? I am wondering if the smooth wall trailers are stronger or have a tendency to resist denting.
Our 2014 Z1 301bh took a pretty good beating. The front caps on the smooth wall trailers are fiberglass, that I think would have received less damage. Our front cap does not have a straight panel on it. The higher you go the more dents it has. Towards to top I bet there are 10 dents in every square foot. The right side and rear and also has dents in it. We are going to call the insurance. I could live with the damage as long as there are no leaks.
I just want a new trailer to look new for 4 to 5 years and hold the best trade in value I can get.

I have a Camper (87 Yukon Wilderness) that is permanently set up at Beer Camp.... I meant Deer Camp. A few years ago when I was still using it I got caught in a terrible hail storm. It severely dented the front and one side. What my insurance offered at the time was ridiculous, but it was a camper much older than yours. I just lived with it until I bought another one. I hope that since yours is a much newer model that your Ins. Co. will make it right. Good Luck!

My parents had a 5th wheel that got some hail damage and from the surface it looked pretty minor. They had it in storage and they went to pick it up and it had major leaking and mold all in the walls. The insurance ended up totaling the 5th wheel. Make sure you check everthing very carefully especially if you have denting

Lots of dents. Especially the front, the higher you look on the front the higher the concentration of dents. I bet the top panel on the front has 10 dents every square foot.

The side and back are not that bad. But they have dents too.

I'm still wondering if the smooth side wall trailers would have less damage? The ribbed tin is just to thin.

Our hummer got hit too and only had 3 dents on the hood. A few more on the roof but who is climbing on top to look at it?

By smooth sided, do you mean the fiberglass rigs?

On the Zinger reserve and Sunset reserve the sides are smooth, not ribbed steel like the Z1. I know the front caps are fiberglass, but I do not know how the sidewalls are constructed?

I don't know what those particular rigs are either. If I had to guess, I would say fiberglass. I haven't seen any smooth sides that are metal. They use the ribs for strength on the aluminum trailers. If they didn't have the ribs they would be a mess in a hurry.

I have one and it is pretty thick fiberglass and I would think it would hold up a lot better when it comes to hail not that I want to find out.

The smooth sided units are fiberglass. In fact, our insurance was 20% cheaper because our unit is fiberglass. According to my agent, they hold up extremely well with hail.

Well the insurance company finally came to look at the damage. They want to total my Z1. Not sure what's going to happen.
I do have a replacement clause.

I have Progressive insurance. The replacement coverage will pay for the same model as a replacement. I just don't want to go thru the hassle of another claim next time.
It was a good storm, my truck was not there but the Hummer H3 was and it had almost no damage. Not even filing a claim on it. But every panel on the Z1 on 3 sides has a few dents. The front panels have between 40 and 100 dents on each panel.

I can try to get some pictures tomorrow. The insurance guy put a piece of tape on every dent. That's the picture I should have taken. But he pulled all the tape off when he was done.

No pun intended, but I am totally shocked..good for you. I would have imagined they could just replace the aluminum panels. That's a $25-30K trailer here.

I could only assume there is more damage to the windows and roof.

My thoughts are .... How does a rubber roof hold up in a hail storm?
