Hot water heater

Our hot water, the electrical part, has burned out. The water heater works fine on LP gas. How to fix?? We thought that someone here might know.

What electrical part? The circuit board or element or ??

If element, get a new one at Ace or Rv parts center. Believe most are 1500Watt/120volt for RV's. You will need a 1-1/2" socket or other element tool to remove. Turn off breaker and drain tank to remove. Pretty straightforward to replace.

Most of the control circuitry is parallel, between gas and electric. First, check the 120 VAC circuit breaker marked water heater. If that' on, and you're connected to shore power, turn on the water heater in the electric mode, and check for voltage across the terminals feeding the element. If it's 120VAC, then you have the right power, so your element must be burned out. Replace as above mentioned. If you're not getting 120 VAC to the element, then don't replace it. For some reason you're not getting power to the element.

Is it a Suburban or Atwood water heater? If it's Suburban take the black cover kn the 2 reset buttons off & check that the thermostat wires haven't shorted against the tank, 1 is 12 volt the other is 120volt. Mine shorted due to the opening being too close to the tank & cover had to be trimmed a bit.
