Hot water heater troubleshooting

Hello all,

Looking for some help troubleshooting my hot water heater. Last night my wife went to shower and the water wasn't very warm for most of the shower. The electric heater had been on for a sufficient amount of time to have enough hot water. Left the electric element in the on position for a while and when I checked again it was still not hot. Also it worked just fine before last night. Thank you in advance for your help and replies.

Not sure what type WH you have or model. Could be the element going bad. Do you also have a gas switch for the water heater. We turn on the electric switch and before we take a shower we flip on the gas.

I think Papa-T is right on target. the elements go bad over time, and are simple to replace in most. The gas switch allows for faster heat up and recovery time when needed.

I forgot to mention it is a 2020 so unless it is a faulty one I don't think it would be that.

Had it worked good before?
Check the breakers to see if it may have tripped.

Thank you everyone for the replies. First thing I checked was the breaker and it was not tripped. It was working fine before. I would take it to the dealership but my house just got packed up and this is where we are staying until we get to our new house in Missouri. I reset it and have the gas heater on right now as well. When I go to take a shower in a few I'll see how it goes.

You'd be surprised how things on an Rv suddenly go bad.

Thank you everyone for helping. I just turned everything off for a few minutes and turned it back on. Hot water works like it use to.

Mine acted up exactly a year ago on propane kinda similar. Turned it on and a minute later it quit working. Turned it off and again on, it would work then go out/off. It did this malfunction a few time so switched it over to electric and that worked fine, till we were done camping that weekend. Turned out to be the circuit board, so replaced it with an American made Dinosaur Electronics circuit board. which I was just lucky to come across because of another persons comment/review while reading reviews about the Chinese junk circuit board I was about to replace mine with again.... i ordered and replaced with Dinosaur and have never had another issue, problem solved...

On mine there is a switch for electric in the front closet and also one beside the hot water heater. IT has been an issue with some accidently turning it off
For others future reference

You didn’t leave your outside shower open.
This will cause cold to mix with the hot keeping the temp down

Make sure you have your Hot & Cold on the outside shower turned OFF and not in the ON position with the quick valve blocking the flow from the shower head.
