Send a message via Yahoo to Jersey Guy

We have separate RV insurance for our 5th wheel. It is through American Modern Home Insurance. This is better coverage than through your auto policy. Well worth it if a tree falls on your rig.

Funny, I've been waiting for my Auto/Home insurance agent to return my call about this very topic. I didn't really feel comfortable with the insurance we have now; I just don't trust them not to gtry and hose me for a claim.

There are many fine companies out there and many good agents. There is no one right way to insure an RV. In my case it works best to have it added to my personal automobile policy. I'll re-evaluate when it is taken to my season lease site this Spring. There are many specialty companies like Foremost (the largest). There are others like Progressive and American Modern Home which have good stand alone products, but RVs are not their specialty.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am an insurance agent. If you have a good agent whom you trust then that is yourbest source for advice. Like all things insurance you will need to decide what coverage is important to you. Not everyone needs the Cadillac of insurance policies.

Talk to your Insurance Agent, that's what I did. Find out what kind of coverage you have & what you can get, it might surprise you (it did us)! The only thing that wasn't covered was towing our 5th wheel (it is now) for either 6 or 8 bucks a year. I'm sure as in most things it varies from Region to Region, so best of luck, I hope you find what your looking for & want in Insurance.

I have mine insurance with Amica which is also my homeowners and auto insurance. I've claims from a blown tire and hail damage without any problems. They have been excellent with auto and home claims. You deal directly with the company, no agent.

All kidding aside many have been successful in going this route. Take the time to do your research on the issues involved and you'll be fine.

Chalk up another for State Farm as I have multi-line discounts due to having house and home under same umbrella policy. Then again, living in the same town as the HQ doesn't hurt either. However, this talk reminds me it is time to make an appointment to have an insurance check-up to make sure things are current.
