I have a 2013 29SS, and was wondering if it would hurt to keep my slide extended out while not camping? Didn't know if it would hurt anything since the slide is pretty long?

I would think you would be better to leave it in if not in use. I asked my dealer the same question and they said there is more stress on the supports when extended.

We put our slides out when at home between trips. We do put them in for winter though due to lots of snow. My thoughts are if having the slides out is hard on the trailer, how am I supposed to go camping? I like having them out then....

I put mine in when not in use because, IMHO, the slide topper stays cleaner and the seals aren't weathered. In addition, slides rarely leak in the out position.

I keep mine indoors when not in use so I leave them extended. Until winter time, once I winterize then I pull them in.

I leave mine out all the time. Course my Cruiser is garaged, I like full access at any time. Otherwise there is a temptation to accidentally step on the slide-out floor while it is retracted. If the frame and superstructure can't handle the extra stress of the slide-outs open while stored, how can they handle the added weight of people occupying the slide outs while camped??

Hey Larry, I had 3/4" (I think it was 3/4" might be 5/8") plywood laying around.. I cut 5 strips about a foot long and about 8 inches wide.. I push under the slide out flooring. Especially on the ends. Sits under there nicely encase someone steps on the floor..

My main floor is 100% vinyl, no carpet, so if the strips were to vibrate completely under the SO while towing and/or scratch the vinyl then either would be a huge problem. I just stay off any retracted SO.

Mine is 100% Vinyl. No issues with scuffing from the plywood. I store my camper at a local RV dealer, Indoors for the winter. The crew there seen my spacers, They told me that i had a good idea because that can't count how many slides they had to fix from floor/Walls tearing from people stepping on them.

IF the slide was on the carpet, I would amagine the thickness of the plywood spacers would have to be reduced or you wouldn't get the 5/8" under there.. I guess you could also use thinner spacers and use extra pc of carpets to protect the floor..

When the slide is retracted, it's not supported properly. The slide has to be supported on the front, which it is when you extend it and it settles down on to the main floor. Some have had problems with the floor pulling away from the sidewall after they have stepped on it or used it when retracted.
