I use a breaker bar for lug nut loosening. Use a torque wrench for tightening and recheck torque at about 100 miles - I have had them loosen slightly on aluminum wheels.
I use a 5 ton bottle jack for lifting the axle. Have had fifth wheels since 2003 and have never had a flat or blow out. I do check the brakes and bearings every spring before I hit the road with the fifth wheel.

I use the same tools on my truck so I always have the tools and sockets for both rigs.

Check the Lippert manual, as I believe it is three increments of about 45, 70 and finally 95 lbs and then recheck 50 miles later. The 16in rims may be a bit more.

This is what CR sent me when I asked about the ones on my Seville. Follow the manual for torque sequence.

If you have alum wheels 95 ft lbs If you have steel wheels 110 ft lbs <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

Thank you,

NoreskNy, check your owners manual for lifting the trailer to change a tire. Mine specifically says not to lift using a jack under the axle as you risk collapsing the axle tube. You are only supposed to lift by jacking the frame.

I have a lightweight aluminum 3 ton floor jack that I use. I always drive up on 2x12's for the 2 axles without issue and jack up the third axle as it's now partiallyunsprung. I only lift from the welded shock bracket and have never had an issue.

I torque my aluminum wheels to 100 ft #'s.

A half inch drive, torque wrench sure makes this job more of an "adventure" for those of us that would rather do this ourselves.

I also keep a old small 3x5 rug with me so laying down on the pavement isn't so painful.
