we are really pleased with the new 5er, but we were appalled at the poor quality of the mattress that came with the unit. Even the Dealer said he is disappointed with mattress quality from the factory. In any case, after spending just 2 nights, we purchased a new mattress for "Rollin' Home" and hope to be getting some comfort now.
It does seem wrong somehow to have to buy a new mattress for a new trailer, but that's the way things seem to be these days. Quality and service are a disappearing commodity.

Mattresses in new RVs are notoriously bad, probably a weight thing. What many have done is added a 2" memory foam topper. Worked for us. Otherwise I think you will find Crossroads to be up to your expectations for quality and service.

I must be the only "lucky" one on this forum LOL. When we bought our unit it was new and the factory had a deal on certain "additives". I got an upgrade to 15K on the A/C, 8.3 Reefer, 10 Gal HW heater, and an 8 inch plush mattress...that is just as comfortable as the one we have at home. So, they do have good mattresses...maybe you must "upgrade" to get a better one. Anyway, we are very pleased with ours...I know that doesn't help anyone else just wanted you to know sometimes they do get it right. Enjoying our new unit.

To add insult to injury, I just stopped by the dealer's lot to dump my tanks after a couple of days initiation with the 5er. The black water pull valve jammed open and cannot be budged. The service Mgr gave me the option of pulling out the underbelly and repairing the cable (probably only to have it jam again - nest tiem in not so convenient a location) or to put a gate valve outside on the clean-out pipe. I chose the gate valve to avoid future issues. For a new unit, I am beginning to wonder if I got a Monday or Friday unit.

NB
Hopefully you only get these problems once and when solved my they never bother you again. Enjoy your unit...any other problems have them fix them until you are well pleased with what you paid for

Out of all the options, you'd think a upgraded good quality mattress would be high on the list?!
My wife and I've bought 2 trailers in the past 2 years, and both came with the worst pieces of foam I've ever tried to sleep on - in fact I couldn't. After the 2nd trip in the original TT, we bought a new mattress from a local Verlo store, where the make mattresses to your specifications. When we bought the 2nd TT, we moved the good mattress to the new unit and put the new mattress into our old trailer - with the dealers approval of course.
My only thought would be that since there are so many individual preferences for mattresses, the RV manufacturers put in the cheapest thing they can find with the expectation that you go out and buy your choice.

I suppose that the cheapest is their option and we can buy our own "usable" mattress, but at that price, spending an additional $400.00 seems just plain 'NOT RIGHT'!

In a sarcastic tone ( jokingly of course), having to buy a good $400 mattress for your RV may not seem right, but if you can't convince your spouse of the need for a better nights sleep, how are you gonna convince them of the need to buy that $60,000 - 3500 Dually truck to tow your 5er?
I mean, what are your priorities in life - a good nights sleep, or your safety?

We had to put a Memory foam topper on our mattress, but we are going to replace it this year. We're looking at mattresses from Ikea.

epjohnso: was I that transparent in my motivation for my new truck?
we didn't really need the memory foam any longer, but since we had it, why waste it?

NB: We all know where your coming from! Been there, done that. Why do you think I have a 2012 Dodge Ram with a Hemi - safety of course!
And of course, I just can't let the pop-up mattress comment slide by! I guess if the issue is that your sleeping up off the ground in anything better than a 'cot' in your tent, those pop-up mattresses are fine, but they are the miserable excuses for a bed. Definitely why we went to a regular TT.
