Hi All

Well it is time to replace the tires on the PP. I know we talked about this on the old board a few times but thought I will refresh it here. I am currently running the Power King tires with not real problems except can not find them here in CA. It is also hard to find the Maxxis tires too. So I guess what others are being used and should I only look for the "ST" or also look at the "LT" tires as well. I know there is a difference with the sidewalls on the ST tire. All the tires will be load range E.

Thanks

george

George, when I replace ours I am going to go with the BFG Commercial LT tires. I was qouted $704 out the door for a set from Discount Tires. That is balanced and metal valve stems.

When it comes time to purchase tires, I am going to bite the bullet and buy the Michelin XPS Rib tires. I have 23585R16E size tires, in a Michelin, I can get them for $204.00 ea at National Tire & Battery.

Several years ago when I had my travel trailer I bought Carlisle tires. I was told there were no better. About 4 years after buying them, I had a blow out. I makes me wonder who has better tires, and is all the money you spend on them worth it? I read an article some place that the life expectancy of a trailer tire is about 4 years. After that you should replace them, even if the only have a mile on them.

There is definitely a construction difference between trailer tires and light truck tires. I would do my home work before jumping into a LT tire for my trailer.

I would be interested in reading some articles if anyone has some available.

George, our trailer has the Chinese made Karrier tires on it. One of them developed a bubble on the inner sidewall. I replaced it with the BFG Commercial TA that Keith mentioned. Mine are the 235 85 R16 "E". I don't believe Maxxis makes a tire that size. So far, Im happy with the BFG. For what it is worth, the guy at Discount Tire told me the Michelin XPS Rib is a very heavy tire and that would cause the trailer to ride rough. Don't know if that's true or not, just passing it on.

Thanks for all the comments. I am looking at the BFG tire to replace the old ones. The change from the 80 to the 85 series is only about 1/2 inch of clearance and that works well with the trailer. Just had the alignment shop tweek the axles so hopefully will not ware on the inside so much and will get twice the mileage out the them.

Thanks to all
george

George, I will be going from the 80 to the 85 for the same reason, much better selection.

I removed the original nylon tires that came on our P.P. and went with LT tires. Metal stems, balanced and installed for $450. After 2500 miles I couldn't be happier.
