One more DirecTV question

Well, I have the DirecTV HD, 3 LNB dish, tripod and other things needed to hook up. My question is how do y'all ground your dish?

I never ground the dish. I use a Winegard folding dish that uses a heavy plastic base and it just sits on the ground. But there is no electrical ground connection.

My dish will sit atop a metal tripod. Is there a danger that lightening striking the dish can conduct the charge through the cable into the RV?

Well it could but is highly unlikely to happen. I was told by an electrician, the only true way to ground your dish so that doesnt happen is to take an 8 ft ground rod and pound it into the ground and ground your dish to it. I dont think thats gonna happen



Thyere are 100's of thousands of RV'ers using sat. dishes and I havent ever seen or heard of onebeing grounded.

In order to be a lightening hazard, it must offer the shortest and least resistance electrical path for the lightening. Tall structures are much more likely to be struck. Unless your setting it up out in the middle of a flat treeless field, I don't think you have to worry about it.
