Ouside Kitchen Problem

Crazy Raccoons!

Last spring, I had one grab a steak when I went inside for a moment, fortunately he dropped it on the table after my screaming. At the same camp site, they would hide on the opposite side of the trailer in the darkness, then round over when I stepped away. At my last campsite, they would come creeping up behind me whenever I faced the stove. Had a couple of nasty hissing possums traveling with him too. I would do my best sasquatch, but he'd come right back.

Anyone keep bear spray for these rascals? Any other advice for keeping them at bay?

Tape a 20oz. soda bottle to the muzzle of the .22, and it won't be any louder than a pellet rifle.

Take two boards and slam together makes a loud crack. They should run. If not call park manager and let them know. As cute as they are do forget they do carry Rabies. Working in the woods for more than 30 years I like the heck out of them but don't trust them either.

This summer we were camping at a state park. I opened the door to go outside for a smoke in the dark and was thinking of taking my lab with me. Then I spotted it.
A baby skunk. Just strolling by my door. I thought that's what it was anyway, it was dark.
Turned on outside light and grabbed a flashlight and opened door again, yes a baby skunk.
It headed directly to my lab's food bowl and started feasting. Ate for 20 minutes.
Then what I assume was the mother decided to come by and visit also.

Trapped in my trailer by skunks for an hour.

When they finally left I dumped all of my dog's food into the woods and cleaned his bowl with hot water.

We've had more skunks this year, at least that I've seen near me, than in the past 20 years.

My only question is "why would you leave any type of food outside the camper at night?????" That's like advertising a free lunch.

Years ago we camped at a place with so many skunks they would visit you while you sat at the table during dinner. They'd weave between your legs like a cat.
We didnt go back.
They were eventually trapped having lost all fear of man.

Knew a guy once that had a "descented" skunk for a pet. Had free run of the house and used the litter box.
