Depends: Pull up. Twist to unscrew. Push down so it pops up.

Ok, tried that, might be defective. Don't want to bust it. Was hoping someone can confirm they always pull up, or push down to pop up or unscrew. None of the those seam to be working. It is stuck closed.

I'll bet it's just stuck. Try two knife points at the 3 o clock and 9 o clock point where the plug meets the drain, and pry gently. These things are cheap. You'll probably end up with a rubber plug from Lowes!

Marty, Martha, I just pulled it up wth channel locks. Will leave open or get a rubber stopper, lol.

Thanks for the quick response.

Paul, glad it was an easy fix. Many current ones have a two-stop system. First lift up brings you to a detent which holds it open for draining. Second stage upward is a removal. Nice concept, but all is cheap plastic. Go to Lowes! LOL.
