Plugging In To Power
Does anyone flip their circuit breaker panel off before plugging in to the campsite pedestal Power?Just wondered because that's what the mfr. website suggests.

I always turn the breaker off at the pedestal when plugging or unplugging.

Me too. But I haven't considered the main circuit breaker in the rv.

I just use my Progressive Industries EMS-PT50C surge protector which has a time delay that checks things out before allowing power to reach your camper. Best thing I’ve bought and has a life time warranty.

If not using my surge protector, yes.
Using surge protector, no.
I always use the surge protector on the road, but not always at home.

Ditto on the surge protector. Never leave home without mine and it has a 2 minute delay before allowing any power to the RV. Has already saved me a couple of times from campground power surges. When considering the amount of money we have paid for our RV's the couple hundred bucks for a good surge protector is quite trivial and a must have in my opinion.

Mine picked up an (open ground) warning at a campground soon after I purchased mine. Contacted the owner and he met with me and I showed him the code warning. He thanked me, moved me to another site and called his electrician.

It’s another one of those things that should just come standard on each RV.

A lot of things that should come standard on an RV don't. It's never occured to me to shut off the breaker before plugging in, will do that now. I had an external surge protector and upgraded to an internal one. Wasn't too hard to wire. Saved me a lot of money. Doesn't just protect the RV appliances but everything you plug into it, TVs, computers, phones. Extra protection. Last year we were at a park where the wiring was Romex running through the woods. I couldn't run my refrigerator on electric because if I turned too many other things on, coffee maker and microwave the EMS shut down the camper. It was worth every penny.

I concur with all the above.
I installed a hardwired 'Surge Guard' unit late last year, I think it was a wise investment given the feedback and comments I read.

I am an electrician every day of the week. I will tell you when I finish wiring a panel (residential, commercial, or industrial), that I apply power to the panel first, then turn on each load (breaker) individually. I'm sure most all of us (electricians) do it that way. Turning on all loads at once will create a surge itself.
Now, everytime the power goes off in my house, I don't run downstairs and turn off all the breakers to switch over to generator. The generator ATS does it automatically, with heavy load as well.
The moral of the story, it will work either way. Most likely, no harm will come to your appliances or valuable electronics in your rig. But its good practice and will NOT hurt a thing!
I always turn off my Main before disconnecting from shore power. If I'm at a sketchy campsite (or bad looking pedestal), I will turn on all breakers EXCEPT A/C, and watch the surge to see steady voltage before cranking on the A/Cs.
Most important info in this thread---------
Get a good surge protector! It will protect your baby from the bad electricians!!
